A remarkable first time horror directed film from John Krasinski. The "gimmick" of not being able to talk during the film worked. The family felt very real to me maybe because John's real life wife is Emily Blunt. Although I felt there wasn't enough real bonding scenes, probably due to the fact they couldn't really talk in the film.
Some very suspensful scenes with the creatures, amazing CGI on this for what it is.
I felt though I wanted to know the backstory more about the creatures more and stuff like that. Maybe on part 2 which was just announced I'll find out!

I actually was very surprised with this film. It reminds me of Final Destination but with more twists. The acting was fine with me, no obnoxious characters unlike so much other recent horror films. Also I thought the pacing was great, there was no unnecessary comedy or any of that in this.
Some scenes were very creepy and really got to me. The decisions the characters have to make are really interesting and I find myself wondering what decision I would make.
The ending I loved, probably my favorite in a while, very unexpected. I recommend this. Similiar to Blumhouse's Happy Death Day which was another well done recent horror film.
I would've liked to see more grueseome deaths in this though. It should've been an R-Rated movie. I feel like if it were R and not PG-13 the ratings on this would be much higher. I am more forgiving of the movie for that because I think it was done well.

Caught this short at a festival screening. Very suspenseful lean but juicy little short film from writer/director Ian Kane. In 10 minutes it is especially shot and directed amazingly well for a first-time director. The methodical creeping pace to build up to the climax in conjunction with the quickening pace of the music works wonderfully. The VFX in it are very nice, especially for the budget of the thing.
I was on the edge of my seat watching Hanna (Sara Hedgren) being stalked in her apartment by the otherworldly entity. It was a breath of fresh air seeing an actress in a horror film who wasn't obnoxious or vapid.
It's a little in the vein of Lights Out and Babadook yet recalls more of that vintage pace of old school 70s dark, estoteric horror.
No unnecessary scenes in this, although a hint of the bigger story this links to is in the beginning. My only gripe was I wanted to know more about the entity's lore, but it looks like that will be in the next installment in his series. I cannot recommend this enough, watch it if you get a chance!
