Overall very good movie.
I really disliked the magic closets that he would just teleport out of instead of showing him sneaking step by step into the compound or buildings. I felt that was really lazy film making. It really interrupted my suspension of disbelief for a minute.
Action scenes were good with real stunts. Jackie was very good in the film and the IRA leaders were all very well acted. He legit seemed depressed and sad and did not break my suspension of disbelief that it was really his daughter that died.
Obviously Pierce Brosnan is good too as a grey area good guy/ bad guy. His complex relationship with his wife, family and colleagues of the IRA is very interesting. They really fleshed out these minor characters as well as their motivations.
There are no innocents in the movie really as collateral damage of IRA / English war are the real victims always. You can't kill innocents and be considered to be justified because your side thought it was for the greater good. The Brosnan charter is seems to be neutral/good but has done some very bad things in the past that he has not had to justify.
Some of the body guards were probably just getting paid and never participated in the IRA bombing campaigns which ended years ago. Did they really deserve to get taken out? Might have just been a security job seeing as he was a high ranking politician.
Guard1: " Hey mike who are we guarding this weekend? " Guard2: "Oh that swamry political IRA dude. He's the worst." Guard1: "Ahh darn. Any decent fish & chips in that area? " Guard2: "No. Well be working on a remote farm til Monday. Meals provided though. Cold stew." Guard1: "Hey who's that guy approaching. Is it the mailman? AH HAH HA H OWW why are you killing me. Stop That!!"
I got the impression that the foreigner is not a innocent either and probably just as guilty of causing collateral damage during his previous career in whichever special forces he came from. He has to live with the Karma that fell upon him in the loss of his daughter and then inflicts the same shame upon Brosnan's character that might be worse than death. To live with what you have done and now have everyone know it.

I liked this movie. Caught it today on classic cinema channel.
The initial reaction is the Father was bad but my feeling at the end is he was the hero.
He didn't lie. He worked hard. Earned what he had and cast out the useless sons and respected Ebon for taking responsibility in the end ... just like he taught him to. He was the true survivor and outlasted them all. He's probably still working the farm to this day.
Fascinating story & well done.

If little Billy Wenan doesn't get some discipline or fatherly guidance in his life he might end up an adult psychopath like skinny man.
The time out generation and participation trophy crowd get an old fashioned reality check when they try to have a temper tantrum on Santa.
The movie is about more than it appears and Santa's naughty or nice list is serious business. There has been a serious loss of moral fiber and accountability in the current generations.
The audience is a winner though is this alternate Christmas themed movie. Great start, slow middle and great ending.
