The film is based on reality but describes only a (small) part of it.C.M. Rome directs the film and focuses on the investigation method (with Bernard Giraudeau as the head investigator) and on the cross-examinations of the killer (played by Thierry Frémont). The film made me often think of the well-known Claude Miller's "Garde à vue". Bernard Giraudeau is the investigator and tries to "get into the head" of the killer in order to understand him, but mainly to solve the whole case. Thierry Frémont steals the show, in the role of the killer, and delivers an exceptionally stunning performance. Bernard Girardeau is as good as usual. I gave 10/10, mainly because of The Frémont's act.
