For the People (2018)
I actually like this show..
I'm not a lawyer or a veteran courtroom drama aficionado but I consider the cast to be charismatic, welcoming, and delightful. I like to see characters who stand up for what they believe in.
I suppose things feel like they may be fast-tracked or easier than they would be in reality and I suppose that would deter interest for people who are actually in the field.
Still, I find a show that instills solid work ethic into viewers to be a good thing. These characters show up to work early and work hard into the night. Something this newer generation probably needs to see more of.
Black Lightning (2018)
Missing a lot..
I was only able to give this series 2 episodes before I had made the decision to give up on it. It fails in a few areas. First, without spoiling too much here, Black Lightning in his off time is referred to as Black Jesus. This is for good reason! The man goes well out of his way to make the world a better place without the use of his powers or violence. THAT man is a hero. I feel like whenever he used his powers it was for selfish reasons and negated all of the allure of his altruistic nature.
As a hero himself he just doesn't look the part. He's a hero with a gut. Something you don't see too much of. I tried to tell myself that he's old and partially retired to help my imagination conform to the idea but it just wasn't working.
His oldest daughter is a promising character. She's hot, smart, and stands up for what's right. Knowing that she's about to discover her own powers almost fills me with the desire to tune back in for more episodes but it's just not enough.
His youngest daughter is the rebel. Falls into the wrong crowds, gets high, and cares too much about what people think about her. Definitely not the kind of character a super hero fan is going to have much sympathy or interest in.
I was really let down with this one.
