It Ain't Over (2022)
Excellent documentary
I had wanted to see this since I saw a trailer in the theatre. If you are a baseball fan this is a must. I grew up as a NY Mets fan but liked the Yankees too. I am not from the generation these older players are from, so I didn't see them play. I only knew Yogi Berra as a manager and knew his one son was a baseball player also. I didn't realize that Yogi was one of the greatest players ever. This documentary was lovingly produced by his granddaughter and we see interviews with other players of his generation, players that he managed and mentored and also his loving family. You could tell how much the family meant to each other and how much he adored his wife Carmen. Yogi's granddaughter reads love letters from Yogi to Carmen which was very moving. Other events touched upon was Yogi's feud with George Steinbrenner and his return to Yankee Stadium. I can't recommend this documentary enough especially if you love baseball. Yogi was a humble, kind man and I had so much respect for him and tears in my eyes at the end.
Where the Crawdads Sing (2022)
Very good
I didn't read the book so I didn't know what to expect. I really enjoyed the story and all the performances were very good. The movie kept me guessing about the ending, but I feel all loose ends were tied up. Scenery was beautiful.
Twee zomers (2022)
Entertaining Drama
Thought show was good and six episodes was appropriate. The story was confusing in parts and one criticism it was hard to match the younger version of the actor to the older version. All in all an entertaining drama that kept you guessing.
Love on the Spectrum U.S. (2022)
Wonderful
I can't say enough good things about this series as well as the original show from Australia dealing with adults on the spectrum looking for love. The filmmakers treat all participants with respect and caring and we the audience become fully invested in their happiness. This series emphasizes that no matter what difficulties/disabilities a person has, we all have the right to love and be loved. Bravo Netflix!
Zachowaj spokój (2022)
Just okay
I watched the whole series but felt like I am missing something. What was the story with bullying teacher and the women kidnapped and killed. There was no resolution and did the little girl with the laptop at the end send the videos?
Cops seem to be incompetent and rude and never take anything seriously. Also we're these were high school kids masterminding this whole thing? Most of Harlen Corbin's adaptations are good, however this one left me scratching my head. Maybe I should have read the book.
Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022)
Terrible
If I could have given this a negative number I would have. The trailer was a little misleading however imagine the frenzied kung foo fighting, etc the whole movie. All I can remember (I think I fell asleep) was kung foo fighting, fingertips like hot dogs, men trying to avoid objects in their butts and a dog being kicked. Maybe I didn't get it. Don't waste your time.
Deep Water (2022)
Bad
Oh boy this movie could have been so good. It was way too long and the basic premise was interesting but what a snoozer. I felt the actress Ana de Armas was overacting and some of the dialogue and relationship between her and Ben Affleck was just cringy. What a waste of 2 hours.
The Weekend Away (2022)
Decent
This was an entertaining movie. Although it had many plot holes, it kept you interested until the end. It was pretty good compared to some of the other movies made for Netflix.
Dog (2022)
Okay
Okay movie and story which we've seen before with all the cliches and we know how it will end. The script really needed some work. It is advertised as a family movie but I really don't think it is. There are some parts and dialogue that was a little cringy. I would give it an okay rating but really nothing new here but a cute dog.
The Adam Project (2022)
Good
I enjoyed this movie. Basic story is Ryan Reynolds from 2050 meets his 12 year old self from 2022, then travels back to 2018, where they meet with Mark Ruffako who is his dad who is deceased. A little confusing if you don't pay attention. The young actor who played Ryan as a boy and his relationship with Ryan as an adult was very good. It wasn't just a time travel/action movie but made you think about your own relationships and things you wished you could have changed/said with your own family members. All in all an enjoyable movie.
Marry Me (2022)
Not too good
This movie was pretty far fetched and seemed like a lot of movies I saw during the 1990's. Owen Wilson was completely miscast and the relationship between him and Jennifer Lopez was cringy. Believe it or not the best acting came from Jlo and the soundtrack was pretty good.
Licorice Pizza (2021)
Weird
Maybe I didn't get the point if this but the story was weird. Made no sense and in fact the relationship between the two leads was cringy. Also I was offended by the dialogue between a husband and his Asian wife. It was too long and an hour would have been enough. I can't believe this is nominated for an Oscar. Don't bother with this!
Spencer (2021)
Boring
I wanted to see this in the movies and missed it. I was able to catch it on Hulu. Please don't waste your time. The only good thing about seeing it streaming is I could fall asleep on my couch instead of in a movie theater. Terrible.
4 metà (2022)
Entertaining
This movie was not the typical "finding your soulmate" romantic comedy. The basic story is about a married couple trying to pair off their unmarried friends. There are two sets of stories and we are not sure while watching who is paired with who and are they their true soulmate. The movie concludes with a dinner of all the couples and we are left to wonder who ended up with who and which was the true story. That's the fun part and each viewer may come up with a different conclusion. I think the movie hints that maybe there isn't a "soulmate". Maybe relationships develop with common interests, attraction, etc.
The movie can be confusing at times with the parallel storylines, so you need to pay attention. Very interesting story, and I am still thinking about it.
Life of Crime 1984-2020 (2021)
Excellent
This was an excellent documentary about the dangers of drug addiction and crime. I wasn't expecting to become emotionally involved with Freddie, Rob and Delirus, but I was rooting for all of them. The film doesn't pass judgement but rather shows how hard it is to overcome the cycle of addiction. Truly a heartbreaking film that should be watched by everyone. Kudos to the filmmaker.
Found (2021)
Very good - spoilers
This was a very good documentary about three young women who were adopted from China during the one child policy during that time period and their journey to locate their biological parents in China. Their adoptive parents are truly wonderful and the woman who helps them is remarkable. You experience their hopes, joy and sadness. The one thing I learned that at the point the documentary was done, none of the women had found their parents but they found each other and maybe that is the point of it. I would love to see an update of their stories.
The Motive (2020)
Huh - spoiler
I have watched many of these true crime documentaries on Netflix. After watching 4 episodes I still have no idea why the son committed these terrible crimes. You have a defense attorney who hints at motives but won't tell us. I would have liked some resolution after watching. The only thing we find out is that the son served 9 years and is now happy and feels no remorse. What was the point of this? Another thing is that it could have been handled in one 90 minute documentary especially since there is no resolution at the end. Disappointing.
The Father (2020)
Excellent performance by Sir Anthony Hopkins
I wasn't sure what to expect from this film thinking it would be a depressing story about an aging parent. However the story being told was done in such a unique way and it kept you guessing as to what the truth was. Also Sir Anthony's performance was mesmerizing and brilliant and I was emotionally involved in the story. See this movie, you won't be disappointed.
Love on the Spectrum (2019)
Lovely Show
I watched Season 1 and loved the heartwarming stories. I was so happy to see Season 2 and am halfway through it. The show is so uplifting and shows us all no matter what disabilities or difficulties someone has in life we all deserve love and to love. The show will make you laugh and cry and you become very invested in their futures. Can't say enough good things about this series on Netflix.
Cry Macho (2021)
Bad
I don't know what I was expecting. The screenplay was terrible, dialogue was very awkward. I know Clint is an icon, but cmon, a scene where a young woman is trying to seduce him, very cringy. The acting was very stiff and I felt the Mexican characters were more cliche than realistic. Poor Clint, he really is a 90 year old and he sure looks and acts like it. I thought he was going to fall over from exhaustion. Maybe it is time for him to retire from acting and stick with directing,
On the Verge (2021)
Not good - may contain spoiler
Normally I give a show/series a chance and try and watch a few episodes. This show's episodes are only 30-35 minutes long and I could barely watch episode 2. The characters in the show are so unlikeable. The relationships with the married couples are very unrealistic. The writing is terrible especially the dinner scene in episode 2. If the writer thought the conversation would be funny/thought provocating or even shocking, it was just cringy. Ugh please don't waste your time on this one.
