Came for George MacKay, stayed for the story. It kept me perfectly entertained on a rainy Saturday afternoon with tea, sandwiches and my two dogs by my side and that was all I needed at the time. It may not be the most brilliant script or directing but the acting is superb and I am willing to overlook a few plot holes. I was a little bummed at the finale as I was invested in some of the characters but really enjoyed it overall. Hugh Bonneville, Kelly Macdonald and the brilliant, young George MacKay are always a pleasure to watch. I had previously watched Babak Anvari's Under the Shadow and found it very compelling. I believe if given the right script he'll have a solid place in this genre.
There have never been a movie so uninteresting, son unengaging in recent history despite such a great cast! It's almost two and a half hours of my life that I will never get back.. I finished it in four seperate sittings and still had very hard time not to abandon it altogether. I guess I kept waiting for a super redeeming scene or a twist, which unfortunately never came.. I had great hopes about this one, but it turned out to be a complete waste of my time.
Great story with even greater actors, what's not to like? I simply adore Ethan Hawke, the man knows his craft and wears every role like glove. Young up and comers Mason Thames and Madeleine McGraw are brilliant, I'm sure we'll see them a lot in coming years.
