La bella y las bestias (2018)
Started off strong...
I liked the first 1/3 off the series alright. It started to get repetitive and annoying towards the end. But I had to finish to know what happened.
I started cheering for Isabelas character in the beginning, but as it went on, she got really annoying and self centeted and I started wishing something nad would happen to her to learn a lesson.
I found some of the characters annoying in general. Emilia got on my last nerve. Her whining was so dramatic and just too much at times. The amount of times Bela and Juan Pablo wispered "te amo" in a row to each other was so corny... we get it, se aman.
Finally, the ending was so rushed. It left many parts of tye story unanswered. Characters just disappeared. A character that was given for dead all of a sudden reappears behind bars with no explanation of how they got there. So many questions, and zero answers.
It was OK... but the last 1/3 of the series was disappointing.
La casa de al lado (2011)
It's OK.
Not my favorite telenovela. There was no need for it to be 165 episodes. Some of the acting was so painful. The gal that played Ignacia was horrible. She overacted, her expressions were confusing. Sometimes I couldn't tell if she was laughing or crying. David Chocarro did an awesome job playing the twins. He did great switching between characters. The Karen character was beyond annoying. There were other actors that did well, but I felt this telenovela was, in general, way overacted, and just too much at times.
The story was intriguing, but it drug on and on. Definitely could have summed it up in less episodes.
Minas de pasión (2023)
It's La Patrona.... 2023
As you watch it, it's like dejà vu. If you've seen La Patrona, this storyline is identical. You know exactly what's going to happen and how each scene is going to play out. The production and special effects are better.
The cast is OK, but I compare each character to La Patrona and some are lacking. Some of the acting is painfully bad... I've had to fast forward through a few scenes that drug on. Also, I'm not a fan of when the antagonist uses children as part of their sinister plan. That happens often in this show.
It's an entertaining show, but if you're looking for a telenovela with a new storyline, this certainly isn't it.
Guerra de Ídolos (2017)
What happened at the end??
I liked the show a lot. It spent a lot of time early on with character development and how folks were tied to others. However, the last 10-15 episodes were extremely rushed and tried to fit a lot of story in to few too many episodes. The last episode was the worst. There were a bunch of story lines that never got resolved. When it ended I sat staring at the screen in disbelief. It was very unsatisfying. There were several characters that I wanted to know how they ended up, if they got justice, etc. But nothing.... it just ended.
Other than that, it was a good series. Some frustrating moments with how characters responded to situations, but that's typical.
Pasión prohibida (2013)
Entertaining
While I liked the story and the majority of the characters, not once did I cheer on the main female lead. I felt she was too arrogant, rude, disrespectful and conniving from the beginning and never felt like she was the "one." I was actually rooting against her the whole time. I liked Jencarlos in this. I thought he displayed the conflict he felt deep down really well. Some of the side stories were more entertaining. The amount of family betrayal that goes on between love, business, etc in telenovelas always surprises me.
Would liked to have seen another season, so sad Mónica Spear is no longer with us.
Death at a Funeral (2007)
Wonderful!!!
I can't remember the last time I saw a movie that made me laugh out loud repeatedly. I had seen a couple of previews, but it never really sparked my interest. All I knew was that I really liked Alan Tudyk, Peter Dinklage and Matthew MacFadyen. I rented the movie on that premise alone. I absolutely loved the humor. Nothing is better than moments where you just burst out in laughter. THAT is what I look for in a comedy. One thing for sure - if you don't get British humor, or you don't think British is funny, this isn't the movie for you. The cast is amazing! There were a bunch of faces that I recognized but I didn't know their names. You could tell that they had a good time making the movie - it translated to the screen in my opinion. :-) I highly recommend the movie.
Bug (2006)
What?!
This was an awful movie! I was hoping for a great intense thriller... I had high hopes since it was directed by the same director of "The Exorcist." All the critic comments on the cover were enticing. I failed, however, to read the synopsis on the back and wasn't real sure what the movie was about but, with the critic comments and knowing that Ashley Judd and Harry Connick Jr. were in it, I was set. However, this movie fell WAY short of my expectations. I generally enjoy movies with Ashley Judd and Harry Connick Jr. Anyway, I thought it was an insane waste of 101 minutes of my life, and yes, I watched the whole thing hoping it would get better... hm... yeah... not so much.
Evening (2007)
Wonderful!
I thought the movie was excellent! Very well done. Amazing cast! Someone commented that Vanessa Redgrave spends the majority of the movie in bed... well... she is sick. If you have heard anything about the movie, you would know that. I thought her performance was awesome. It is from the same author of "The Hours" so if you have seen that, you should expect this NOT be your typical love story. I laughed, I cried, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Hugh Dancy did a superb job with his character. Clair Danes, Toni Collette, Natasha Richardson, and Patrick Wilson all gave awesome performances! I would recommend this movie to anyone, it is an original story and just lovely.
