The style of photography gives this drama a documentary feel. As does the authenticity of Owen Cooper and Stephen Graham's acting. Both are superb. The first episode starts with the huge shock that a young man is being arrested for murder and I stuck with it to find out what evidence the police had. Then I wanted to watch the next episode straightaway expecting it to be as good. Unfortunately it isn't. The explanation of what was happening on line to the perpetrator of a murder was mumbled by the policeman's son. I rewound it several times and could not work out what he was saying. Since this seemed to be critical to the plot I lost interest. Soon into episode three I fell asleep.
I spent the best part of 3 hours hoping the family would ignore the nuisance of a neighbour downstairs and get around to furnishing and decorating their house to make it a home instead of an austere cold shell. I was also wondering how much a window cleaner and a cleaner would cost. Yes it was that slow and boring to watch. At the end of 3 episodes it is not clear to me who were the characters I am supposed to like? Nor what is the moral of the story if there is one? Apart from being left wondering how much window cleaners cost in Glasgow, I think it would have been interesting to find out if the previous owners of the house had had similar experiences. My recommendation is 3 stars because there is only enough interesting content for 1 episode.
