Okay, I thought. Martin Scorecece. I thought. And Robert De Niro. I thought. Can't be bad I thought. I kept waiting and waiting for something interesting or something funny. Don't wait. There is nothing around the bend. Nothing around the corner. It is a complete waste of time. After it was over, I looked at the money trail. $20 million to make it and it returned $2 million at the box office. Had I known that I would not have wasted a couple hours of my life watching this train wreck. I can't think of one redeeming factor or one reason why you should watch it. Well if you watch it, come back and read my review. You will have wish you listened to me.
Emmy Raver was so bad I could barely watch the movie. She was so bad it actually made me wonder why they made this movie. It had possibilities with Jason Stratham but it could not overcome the bad acting by Emmy. It was a well tried idea - bad thing happened to nice person and nice guy seeks revenge but it is to overdone. The script and acting is just plain bad. No reason to watch this movie. Save yourself some time and aggravation. Watch some other movies with Jason Stratham. He is the real deal and has some great credits behind him. This however, is not one of them. He must have needed the money, cause there is no honey.
After reading the book, I had great hopes for this movie. I'm thinking something along the lines of the timeless Godfather series. However, I was very disappointed and it mostly has to do with the actors cast in various roles. William Hale was in his 50s and De Niro is 80. It was very difficult to project the role of a money grubbing murderer in his eighties. And Ernest Burkhart, just home from WW I, was in his 20s not pushing 50 like Decaprio. And Tom White was a big man older than Burkhart, yet he was played by Jesse Plemons who is 10 years younger than DiCaprio. Plemons calling Decaprio "boy" was just plain laughable. The best actors in the movie were mostly unknowns and they played their roles well. Martin Scorsese has lost his way. Too bad, great book.
