Astral (2018)
good topic
I liked this movie the most for it's perfect topic. Even if all other aspects of movie were the worst, I would still have given it high rating. Because topic sounds realistic, taken from real life, and perfect for horror movie. So, based on topic and rating, similar to other good horrors who all use some nice scientific or pseudo scientific concept. Somewhat good effects and actors. This is especially interesting to me because mentions similar problems I am dealing with like fear, desire to bring dead beings back, psychological or psychiatric issues, odd behavior. And best of all, it is current with our time, meaning shows appropriate use of technology like laptop, Internet, sites like wWikiHow, YouTube, Google. As believer in New Age philosophy, I found many similar things I am investigating in real life just like this guy in the movie, like time travel, Eckhart Tolle's teachings, emotions, and purpose of life.
Promising Young Woman (2020)
too negative and ordinary
I hated this movie. Although topic and story sounds interesting, moral, and makes me think about it, the way it is presented it too typical, annoying, and negative. There is lack of moral, too much sexual things, violence, and ordinary talk and threats. The actions is vague, boring, and shallow. Not realistic enough. I expected something more serious, realistic, and special. But end it typical and almost empty. The only thing I liked is topic and bit of environment. Also lasts too long.
Minari (2020)
Korean, natural, realistic
I liked seeing some presence of Korean culture. Also liked seeing realistic natural small things like jokes, how one family lives, how they work, and unusual people and problems. But I did not like that this lasts long, end is quite pointless or unclear, and there is some negativity in form of childish relationship or family issues, and unrealistic sudden twist of things near end, looks like setup.
Soul (2020)
philosophical, spiritual, interpreting life
This is good. It reminds me of Eckhart Tolle's teaching, where main topic or intention of this movie looks like to be to force us to appreciate smaller things in life and focus on present moment. I liked that it touches various aspects of life such as soul, mind, emotions, relationships, skills, and art. Forces us to see beauty in smaller and more common things. Also bit funny. Bit scientific. Deep. Emotional. High level of relationships and nature. But I did not like that it is too unrealistic and not completely clear. Good way to try to explain religion and whole life, but maybe this would look more serious if it was not in form of cartoon. Similar in quality, topic, and rating it deserves to other oscar of the same year The Father (2020).
Nomadland (2020)
boring, dedicated to old people only
I hate this movie. It shows too much old people, something I am not, so can't relate to it. Also too much socializing, outgoing people, and traveling, none of which relates to me, especially since I am exactly liking all the opposite, like asocial, introvert, prefer to stay in one place. There is some slight magic in form of nature and talking about death, stars, and another life, but very slight. I found much better magic and nature even in some cartoons I rated best, such as The Snowman (1982) and I recommend everybody that one, if anybody has same thinking about this movie as me, but would like to see more of nature and magic.
The Father (2020)
deep, magical, emotional
This movie started as ordinary, boring, empty, nothing happening, I almost stopped watching it. But quickly it turned out extremely touching. It touched my heart o soul. It has strong or deep feelings of empathy, hope, love, sympathy, sadness, and understanding. Reminds me of old people from personal life and of their problems, and reminds me of personal problems and experiences with various hospitals, psych wards, institutions, mental disorders. Also this could be movie about old people, or any disease, or mental disorders like psychosis or other diseases. Also it is anomalous, meaning very mysterious, where it is so difficult to figure out what is real, what is dream. Reminds me of other problems where such difference is observed like when somebody performs some crime or lies. Also in beginning this looked like big setup and fake, but later it became more realistic, deep, and touching. It increased my empathy, understanding for old and sick people, and even myself. Also it reminds me of some girls, their behaviors, and relationship issues. That bit of nature seen through window reminds me of nature seen in real life through window, of hospitals and other institutions, where sometimes one tree or bush tells whole story about one place, or increases our feelings, because they are somehow common to all people regardless of in which interior people are, their exterior somehow connects them, gives them common same picture, and I feel empathy in that. Difficult to explain, but this movie is more personal, subjective, and emotional. Also because anomalous it is similar to movie Old (2021). And because it is emotional it is similar to some cartoon movies or half cartoon half real movies, or at least emotions are similar, like Balto (1995). There is so much feelings and associations there, some of things being family, abandonment, institutions, disease, love or intimacy or relationship issues, hope, deceased people...just difficult to explain, so emotional. But that seemingly negative feeling of sadness is actually positive here, it inspired or motivated me to improve my life in various areas, on both material and spiritual levels.
Ma Rainey's Black Bottom (2020)
bad like most oscars
As always, similar to most other oscars, and about some famous person I never heard about. Talk dominates. Negativity, arguing, childish behaviors and problems. No lesson. Nothing to see. Just ordinary negative emotions, behaviors, and talk. Talking about God, Jesus, justice. I found that even my life is more interesting than this movie. Just looking outside of screen made me feel better. Can't really figure out why such movies get Oscar, and looks like because it is the topic (famous person) that is the reason.
The Foreigner (2003)
tiring and boring
This made me tired. Only few good conspiracies, environment, and stunts. But more like joke or video game. As movie this is very tiring, unclear, fake, and not serious. Bit funny. Unrealistic shootings, stunts, and decisions. Lots of twists, that I cam confused who is who, who is good or bad. Not good to watch. Those 1.5 hours looked like 3 never ending hours.
Into the Sun (2005)
fun
This is fun and bit funny. It shows us how funny Chinese and Japanese cultures are. It also reminds me of some other movies like of Jackie Chan and video games like GTA 3. But this looks better if it would be video game like GTA 3. Because it is graphics, challenging, and there are like levels where boss of gang group is at the top. Bit emotional. Cool characters, they did good job in their roles, and they are unique. Nothing serious tough. So I would call this lower quality movie. Also bit difficult to watch because not pure English.
General Commander (2019)
not too serious
This is good movie only as advertisement or stunts and action. But it does not look serious. There are fake graphics, extreme actions, and story which looks bit like joke and impossible. Also end is unclear or empty, not show clearly. Story is bit unclear too. I liked the most makeup, characters, and interaction, especially the way they (especially Seagal) talk with boss, like perfect confident conversation, something I won't forget or might even try to imitate.
Beyond the Law (2019)
ordinary crimes and revenge
Nothing interesting here. Just ordinary crimes and revenge. Negativity and boredom dominate. Negative end. Not interesting. As always, Seagal is the best here. Darkness, distrust, drugs, money. Was this something more specific, unique, or interesting, I would like it.
End of a Gun (2016)
good deal with a girl
The best thing I liked here is deal with a girl, because as a guy being myself, it teaches me not to trust girls, and I associate girl with real life girl, sexually and emotionally. Also good motivator or inspiration. Also good locations, fights, weapons. Best actor is Seagal, then girl and that his ex colleague enemy, which I recognize from Taken 3 movie. Good story, although bit typical. Realistic. Reminds me of possibilities and wishes in personal life, wanting to have girl and money. Only bad things are bit unfinished and negative end, meaning what happened to main enemy, and could be more positive if girl stayed alive or less dead characters. Also good thing are few small sweet or funny events like their quotes about girl, which are bit sexual or unmoral, and dog.
Attrition (2018)
philosophy and tradition
This is about philosophy and tradition of something probably Chinese, so anyone interested in said topics will like this. Other topics included: fighting for greater good, empathy, humanity, justice, crime, doing good deeds, kung fu. I liked exploring bit of unusual language and traditions and location. Also graphical. But I did not like foreign language other than english, and negativity. Also too much ordinary stuff and nothing happening. So this is one worse movie of Seagal. As always, the most interesting person here is Seagal. Good skills, confidence, philosophy.
The Perfect Weapon (2016)
amateur movie
This is one of worse or more amateur movie with Seagal and that main actor, can't remember his name. I liked few things like falling in love, having sex, torture, and lesson not to trust anybody including women. Also good weapons, environment, and traditions like using swords and talking about life. But I did not like seeing Seagal more, because he is the best actor here, and everything looks fake, and too dark. Also unsolved at the end and too negative, random, and not completely clear.
Gutshot Straight (2014)
one of worse Seagal's movies
There was little content with Seagal on it. The guy from Prison Break and CSI is worse than in those two series. Boring. Ordinary gambling, action, problems. Nothing to see. Not convincing, negative, immoral, disconnected events. Unrealistic how naive characters behave and no tactics, logic, strategy. Just some random sudden naive things happening. Nothing to look forward for. Empty end. No emotions. The main character but also everybody looks tired, disinterested, and evil.
Absolution (2015)
good choice of words
I liked choice of words said both by Seagel and by chinese guy. It relates with my schizophrenia or schizoid personality disorders. Even without such conditions, I think they used good choice of words, which are understandible, such as to not trust anyone, and about losing hope. I liked both guys confidence, stunts, action, and graphical killings. I also liked that unlike in other Seagel's movies he did not leave girl but even entered personal relationship. Only things I did not like is bit too typical fighting and evasion of death, and bit unrealistic. But this is inspiring, motivating, fun, and satisfying to watch. Seagel looks like strong, confident, serious man, and has skills, and courage, and I understand him.
Force of Execution (2013)
ordinary action and crime
Nothing unusual about this one. Fighting, shooting, war between gangsters or mafia, and few good unique characters and skills. As always best is Steven because he sounds serious, confident, strong, and solves problems the best. Few good unique things like reviving dead hands, but unfortunately that looks unrealistic or not convincing. Nice fighting and shooting.
Maximum Conviction (2012)
bit too unrealistic
The worst two things here are bit too unrealistic things like fake stunts, graphics, and too naive behaviors, and too boring location, almost nothing happening but fighting. Would have liked seeing more places. But good things are few good stunts, feeling of satisfaction when justice is served, bit funny things, and few good actors who have good moves and skills, especially Steven where he shows confidence, seriousness, and professionalism. Not the best movie because of too much negativity, violence, abuse, and unrealistic behaviors and graphics, but good for those who prefer to see more fighting and shooting than strategy and realism.
Born to Raise Hell (2010)
fulfilling to watch revenge
I am feeling satisfied to watch justice and revenge being served. It brings fulfillment to my somewhat wounded and empty heart, at least it fills part of that hole. Also I liked that unlike in most movies here we could see justice being served to female gender too, without any censorship or stereotype. I liked high presence of action, strong and unique characters, and graphics. Emotional. High level of relationships. Only some parts are bit too typical and boring, so can't give it more than 8 stars rating. The best is Steven, he looks and sounds the best, wise choice of words and wise moves, he should be our idol.
Machete (2010)
not a movie, but a joke and advertisement
This started of good like real movie and real story. But later it became a joke, advertisement, and excess of gore. Lots of violence, political, physical, religious. Lots of filth and lack of moral. So good because of those few good stunts and jokes and highly graphical. But bad because it is too immoral, unrealistic, and abusive. It became less like real movie at the end, and so I can only rate this as joke, graphics, and advertisement, but not as a movie.
The Keeper (2009)
too many twists
I liked this movie for being realistic, bit emotional, and serious topic, the dangers of living in specific places. Good main actor, where he looks skilled, natural, serious. Also bit funny. But bad is too many smaller twists and stories, and unclear connections, difficult to relate things or explain them. Lots of unreasonable things, unclear things, and end looks somehow too amateur and quick. The whole police looks amateur. Not the Steven's best movie.
Sniper Special Ops (2016)
not the best Steven's movie
There are bit too typical things like just ordinary war shooting, hostages, foreign language, negotiations. Reminds me of video games like Battlefield and Counter Strike. But besides typical shooting, and bit emotions, and realism, most things are boring here, probably the most boring Steven sitting with that wounded guy in same place for long time, and there is some unexplained unfinished business. What happened in base at end? And what is that conspiracy theory that was asked by that soldier in base, will never discover?
Code of Honor (2016)
too mysterious to point of being unclear
I liked this because of main idea, which is revenge and justice, fighting for something, which strongly resonates with my faith and belief system. Also I liked that this is mysterious and lots of action. But I don't like that it is too mysterious and towards end getting more and more confusing or unclear, that actually in the end it leaves me with lots of questions. In fact in the end I don't even know who survived, who is dead, and bit unfinished.
Cartels (2016)
good actors and action
Although this is not perfect because most things are typical, annoying, boring...the main actors and action part is good enough. High presence of strategy, creativity, and nice environment. Good topic and main idea also. Best is the Steven where he look confident and strong both during interrogation and during action. Realistic, serious, dangerous. Shows us how typical police job looks like from the depths or from their side, the special ops side, and how cartel business is dangerous.
The Other Man (2008)
good actors and topic and emotional
But bad explanation and end. Story is unclear, unrealistic, and I just could not realize when did that woman get sick. I only heard word cancer in 2nd half of move, towards the end. So looks like story suddenly changed, in non convincing way. Similar to Original Sin (2001) and in fact same actor. But here is best Liam, as in most his other moves, he looks convincing, natural, immersed in own problems, as if it is all real. And two other best things are topic which I experienced several times in real life, the need of finding things out about any suspicious hot girl. And very emotional, sad, to see somebody dying of cancer. Also adventurous both because of various locations, and because of act of investigating things. I expected more action, and less talk. So not the best movie, but good actors and topic and emotional.
