Trashy and generic horror movie that is not worth your time unless you genuinely like the hokey features that you get at the bottom of the bargain bin.
One hard night is the narrative for this rookie cop dealing with Satanists which they try to spin as not really Satanists which they're not but it's all the same trope.
A little slow burning at the beginning was auspicious but quickly the whole thing dissolves into noisy nonsense and those magic tricks that people loved in the silent films of 1890 but just feel like beyond a joke now.
I'm surprised I've found this much to say about it but I need to meet the word quota.

Family Guy doesn't mock a movie with a minute long joke without good reason.
It has to be that special kind of smug, didn't really try, insultingly bad.
It's just not the movie it should have been: it's all about people remaking the original show. And she happens to also be a witch.
That's more of a description than a review but do I need to say more? There aren't even jokes to make it better.
You took a show that a lot of people have great nostalgia for. They weren't expecting a masterpiece, just a tribute and we got this movie that people remember but try hard to forget.
This last sentence is just to meet the quota.

I remember this being very good.
With that concept it shouldn't be, how many horrible young pregnancy movies are there on Lifetime or similar channels?
But it works. It's not soapy or yelly. It's a cute, sort-of-a-comedy that sails along breezily with humor and pathos.
Slick and stylish as evidenced from its animated title sequence, the music is also what makes this. My Dad fell in love with the soundtrack of this and so did I, our household was bemused by how charming this actually was.
For a long time Diablo Cody had no identity to me beyond simply the person who wrote this and I so wish that were still the case.
