This started out superb. Absolutely gorgeous vistas, extremely impressive set design, and super showy dialogue. Emily blunt is always the best. And I loved her partnership with the male lead. But as the episodes went on, the cracks began to show. The timelines and plot order were convoluted for no reason. Episode 4 was a real upset for me. Completely took me out of the storyline they worked so hard to establish, unnecessary time spent on characters (that I couldn't understand an actual word of). I feel like they spent way too much time on some moments, and glossed over very important ones that should have been shown (cough cough black eyed mog). And a note to the filmmakers - your audience is not totally dense. You do not need to type out the location and time period of every single opening shot. We are capable of following plot.
This is the first time I've felt completely out on this show. The character switch ups were abrupt and didn't fit the younger actresses playing them at all. Olivia Cooke is GOING FOR IT and it's just not for me at all. Also, a prequel to the phenomenon that was GoT and it's amazing kid actors and they couldn't find better ones than these?? From the beginning the child actors on GoT where believable. These guys aren't cutting it. My main problem, the whole show is centered on Rhaenyra and Alicent and I feel like we barely get time with them in this episode. If this show is solely going to center on which of their kids ascend the throne then I admit I'm out. Weak episode for sure.
