Harlem (2021)
Thus far....
Disclaimer: I'm only on the first episode, but the parallels to Sex and the City are screaming. For example, there's a scene where Camille hides from her ex (classic Miranda and Carrie scenario). Also, there is another part where they can't get into a restaurant, which is similar to the episode when Samantha and Carrie were denied entry into a "hip" establishment. Aside from these similarities, the acting is a bit overtop. The reactions in each conversation is Disney-ish instead of a natural flow.
On the upside, Tye is a refreshing character and gives the audience a view into a different sexual experience. Perhaps if she was the main character then it would have created more of a distant comparison from its obvious inspiration. I plan to finish the series soon so I can give it a chance and a full review. But thus far, I'm struggling to see the originality and authenticity.
Bad Hair (2020)
It had so much potential!!
The concept was cool. HOWEVER, the way this movie was written left me waiting for something of hilarity, horror, and substance to happen for two hours. Meaning this movie was simply just a mood board with an empty plot. I looove the actors, but they were not directed to their full potential. Overall, I was really disappointed.
The After Party (2018)
Weak Movie
Poor acting. Poor plot. Definitely tried to hard to be "cool."
