The real reason I'm looking for Ugly Betty's First Season is because I want to compare it with the original version. Betty La Fea was a hit in my country, Indonesia. (We do watch telenovelas , not many people know about that habit).
And when I heard that there will be the American version starred by America Ferrera, I'm quite excited to watch it. America Ferrera, since I watched her in "Sisterhood of The Travelling Pants", I always think that she is going to progress into a much better actress in the future. And yes , she is going to shine brighter.
Of course, the story is a bit fairy-tale. But hey, it is for the entertainment. I don't mind a bit laugh, a bit cheesy, and simple for a series (tired of the never ending love drama of "Grey's Anatomy"). I love Marc & Amanda. Marc is hilarious!! I can't imagine Ugly Betty without him in it. All of the characters really play the perfect role. The good thing of this series is : it slowly develops the characters of each person. Betty might be the angelic character in this series, but I think we can be prepared to see some ugliness that can be shown from her side. As for the other people, we might see some good points from them too.
Although the only thing lack of this series is it doesn't commit too much to its title. "Ugly Betty" means she is really UGLY. The original version, Betty La Fea was very convincing. Betty in that Colombian version (I think?) was really shown ugly. They were really serious when they made this series. It was not 'a sudden Cinderella' syndrome. The change made in the original was very slow, step-by-step. So it looked natural and more convincing.
Of course, as far as I watched, I haven't noticed any signs of Daniel fall for Betty. (Ouh, by the way, I love Henry!). And because the USA Betty is not going to be that difficult to have a make-over, I guess, what I'm really looking forward is not how Betty will change from ugly-duckling to Miss USA. But the conflicts, the drama, the comedy, and more of the human factors in this series. (OK, mostly the comedies).
I'm quite happy with the progress, though. :)
