Poor Bergman

Under the pretext of subtlety, the film avoids any conflict, any emotion, any depth. The characters roam the surface of life, without ever diving into it. A sort of bourgeois hell.

Moreover, the awkward realization absolutely does not pay homage to the supposed beauty of the landscapes. Of the whole movie, two or even three frames are correct. The rest is just platitude. Camera movements never make sense.

I end up thinking about the title. In fine, a tout. I have no doubt that one day soon, an uninspired director will name his dish of buttery shells "Kubrick Paradise" or "Godard Bedroom", in order, on a misunderstanding, to attract some victims in the theaters.

Everything is well thought out in this film.

The acting is fair. The rhythm despite its 3 hours is well hammered (I did not feel anything past while I tend to get bored quickly). The aesthetics of the image are surprising (despite some images somewhat reminiscent of the 80s).

I am touched by the poetry that emanates from the film. Everything has been thought of to embark the spectator in a nostalgic hypnosis, soft and above all full of love and empathy.

Best movie of 2021 so far.

Words have a meaning and Julia Ducournau twists them with a crude militant will: of course prejudices are born by cataloging in too narrow boxes; but removing the very notion of a box, what it promotes here is not diversity, it is a falsely subversive gloubi-boulga which has nothing touching, realistic or profound. Really disappointing from the author of Grave, which was much more successful and, for once, subversive.

Sad and famous

Dumont will, in this film, show us the underside of journalism, both on television sets and during the filming of documentaries / reports.

France is played by a Léa Seydoux playing the role of the narcissistic journalist spectacularly well, living only for her success to the detriment of people, with a certain contempt for them.

It's a real treat to see her play, going from a very chic world with sequined dresses to battlefield sequences, it's her best role in my opinion.

The plunge into the faking of the reports is very well orchestrated and absolutely embarrassing for on the one hand the people interviewed and on the other hand us, who attend the scenes knowing the psychology of France. It's funny, shocking, and right at the same time. Of course, special mention for the music of Christophe, coming to sublimate the film.

Without going into too much detail, the staging, the well-directed actors and the music transport us to this film, alongside France, who will experience the backdrop of the life of a star.

Between her complicated family life, the accident with the delivery man, the relentlessness of social networks destroying as quickly as they send to the top and the perversity of the media, France has no respite, the current system still catching up with her.

In conclusion, this film is a treat. A painting of current society making us cross all emotions. Not having really adhered to his last two feature films on Joan of Arc, France reconciles me with Dumont.

I can understand that the film is not unanimous. Nonetheless, I highly recommend it. He was in the official selection at the 2021 Cannes Film Festival and, in my opinion, deserved awards.

Unfortunately, with a weak leading actor.

Positive it has a golden story. A beautiful cinematography and scenario, a substantial budget for a French production.

Alas, sometimes it has a wobbly plot although it doesn't get in the way overall. A good casting except the one who plays inspector Jouin who is really below the others and limits the series! Jérémie Laheurte isn't a bad actor at all - average at the best - yet he hasnt enough talent and acting skills to lead a big budget TV show like this one. Looking at its sucessuful British counterpart, Peaky Blinders or its American cousin, Boardwalk Empire. It takes a heavy actor level for carry a such a promising series.

The French producers could've hired some top francophone thespian like Matthias Schoenaerts or Gaspard Ulliel as the leading role actor.

Or others less known outside France like Pierre Niney, Niels Schneider or François Civil, they'd have more dramatic resources and screen presence to lead the show than Laheurte. Missed oportunity.
