Joker (2019)
Perfection
4 days after watching this film, I still feel it's impact, I cannot get it out of my head. The most perplexing, beautifully crafted & shot film of the Decade. This film, "Joker" will always be remembered. Joaquin's performance, the score, everything culminates perfectly. And by the end of the film. You will question your own Morals & Sanity. 10/10
Captain Marvel (2019)
A matter of perspective
Firstly I must say This film is not perfect by any means yet I still regard it has one of my preferred films in the mcu the woman hero and it's whole feminist agenda are not strongly baked into the film and do not break immersion, I love the fact every little girl now has a proper superhero to look up to, (I mean of course you have Wonder Woman but she wears a damn mini skirt for God's sake) Captain Marvel does not stop to indulge itself in the fact this is a woman lead film and merely adopts it asif it was the norm, this is Cap marvels best trait and I commend the filmmakers for achieving this, fantastic! Brie is decent throughout yet has some dull moments and the film overall does too, and a few scenes did make me cringe... however the action was to decent to enjoyable with a few fresh ideas inserted here and there, all in all a thoroughly enjoyable movie 7/10 maybe an 8 on a good day.
Titans (2018)
Movie worthy material
Titans despite a filler episode (that I personally enjoyed) and the ending, is brilliant, the way it brings about the forming of the team and they're unique relationships with one another is fantastic, the action seems slightly over the top in the gore department but all in all I am excited for season 2!
Aquaman (2018)
Too much
The film overindulged itself in special effects and big money action slow-no shots that leave the entire film feeling less interesting due to a lack of a final big payoff while the final battle is expertly done many of the action sequence before fail to hold you in, due to "unrealistic" happenings, there are people who walk unscathed out of situations in which they should not.
And this draws you out of the action ruining the immersion.
This film also falls flat with its villain, Ocean master, who lacks any good motivation unlike the black manta villain placed in the subplot, manta is an expertly executed villain who deserves to be the main villain. All the actors pull out decent performances apart from Wilson, who feels out of place despite looking the part. Some of the stories content and little details may leave general audiences confused, nonetheless this is a good introduction into a new far more badass vision of aquaman.
Bumblebee (2018)
The Perfect comeback
Bumblebee proves 'the transformers' capability to be brilliant movies, as this one is. It blends emotion and extremely well choreographed action into a heartfelt 80s movie, as much as the story may be slightly rehashed from old classic tales such as the iron giant, the action is fresh, exhilarating and completely rejuvenated gone are mindless explosions and shaky cam shots, replaced, by fluid sensical beautiful action shots that manage to hold they're own emotional weight. The only thing this film could of done better would of been to release during a less competitive month as aqua man has seriously hamstringed this movie at the box office, despite bumblebee being the far better movie
Vader: A Star Wars Theory Fan Series (2018)
For the fans by a fan
This film or episode is nothing short of fantastic, if this had of been released by Disney it would of received the same praise, the fact this was created by a very small team and funded by one man is incredible, the story is intriguing and the action is incredible, cannot wait for more
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018)
No longer impressive
A film that has been redone and remade in too similar fashion to its predesscers 1 too many times this film is boring and predictable. Unlike the wild creatures that dominate he screen time. At every sign of trouble something extremely convenient takes place. Not to quote deadpool but it really is "Lazy Writing"
Searching (2018)
Searching for awards
This film is a masterfully unique experience that some may find all together too wierd to enjoy. If you are unphased by new experiences this movie may be for you!
Mission: Impossible - Fallout (2018)
Mission Possible
A very good film that seems a little too much a like a perfect version of older titles in the same franchise, I you liked the others you will enjoy it, if you've never seen the last couple you'll Love it!
Ant-Man and the Wasp (2018)
It's a marvel movie
Not much more too say it's decent with a good script and funny dialogue but a weak villain and poor action scenes, still, an enjoyable instalment that cleanses the pallet after infinity war
Game Night (2018)
One too many
Way to many twists and turns and an undecided genre and route for this film object a sort of lost feeling where I'm unsure of wether to laugh, be shocked or just cringe an okay film with some pretty decent moments
John Wick (2014)
Decent
Torn between 6 and 7 a fresh take on the action genre with a very comparable script and excellent casting
John Wick: Chapter 2 (2017)
A big statement
Barely giving a moment to breathe and embracing its gratuitous attitude John wick 2 becomes much more experimental and unique than its predecessor and it's all the better for it...
The Equalizer 2 (2018)
Diabolical
A terrible film. A million scripts mashed into one, a dreadfully simple performance from denzel Washington that fails to make any scene in this movie enjoyable. Characters are fleshed out until they completely are ignored after 2 hours of build up, I was more interested in the old man getting his painting back than I was The "main story" if I could ever even figure out which set of events that was.
A Quiet Place (2018)
Boring
Every decision made in this film is pointless, for a survival film nobody seems to understand he concept of it, by the end of the movie you are left numb and dumbfounded at the resolution. Unnessacary film,
Tomb Raider (2018)
fantastic, but not really
Tomb Raider does everything right on paper but when watching the film the excitement isn't sustained and the lore and amazement shown in the latest games is not explored in enough detail given this is one of the main factors for people loving these stories. Still Alicia Vikander plays a brilliant Lara Croft that is a hero in her own right and is not restricted by the typical female hero in film, that being overly sexualised. However the same cannot be said for the film as a whole as it fails to tread new ground. A sequel would be welcome but seems unlikely.
Thor: Ragnarok (2017)
New Thor, Better Thor
A much needed reinvigoration of a dull character that turns Thor into one of the most likeable and imentertaining heroes in Marvels seemingly never ending line up.
Avengers: Infinity War (2018)
Breaking the MCU mold
New and fresh, extremely ambitious and yet still familiar, the final act is absolutly insane! And you will remain on edge for hours after the credits roll, Here The Russo brothers have managed to blend the typical Marvel movie with an Oscar worthy experience of a lifetime
Southpaw (2015)
Emotional rollercoaster
Having billy hope an already established champion and watching his fall to rock bottom was heart wrenching and truly made you feel for the character as he screams into his pillow all the while his daughter staring at the pills and bullets on the bed, a tale of triumph and failure, playing the duality of hate and love, and proving just how tightly they are entwined to one another
Transformers (2007)
All Hail Megatron!
A revolutionary action film that ticks all the boxes of your typical summer blockbuster and then some! The cgi and special effects are even better than most films released in 2018 with similar or larger budgets at their disposal. The film that spawned the critically panned yet adored franchise of 5 soon to be reinvigorated by "bumblebee" later this year, as of right now it is an overused formula however at the time this absolute marvel of a film was unique, a breath of fresh air. And that made it special, it brought memories back for the older generations and created them for the youth, oh and need I say the action is some of the best we've ever seen?
The Lazarus Project (2008)
Mind breaker
A film full of twists and turns that genuinely are unforeseen and executed fantastically, Paul Walker provides an outstanding performances as he envelops and expresses the very frustration and confusion laced with misguided anger the audience feels throughout the film as your mind is placed on edge awaiting the next turn of events, another overlooked film that stands on its own as a brilliant piece
First Kill (2017)
Tension
The film crafts a brilliant atmosphere and tension, Hayden is usually stamped all over by critics for his acting but here it feels genuine and real. He has a believable relationship with his child and while not he greatest film in the world it provides some brilliant entertainment and deserved better than it was given.
The Transformers: The Movie (1986)
A Classic.
A film that was passed down to me as a child that I will pass on to my kids whenever that may be. A film that feels slightly dated yet still unique and fresh the remaster really aids the film too, maybe not a classic but definitely something to be looked back on with good memories.
Venom (2018)
A Perfect Match
Just like the premise of the symbiote, in that it needs a perfect host, this movie needs to be watched by its niche audience, those who loved Venom from the comics and have been begging for an honest true to the character betrayal since the spider-man 3 days and before, will adore this film as they understand what this character is all about, for some the comedy may seem out of place in what from the trailers looks like a brooding dark gory horror. True fans of the comics will recognise this as being one of Venoms trademark traits, twisted somewhat offensive and dark humour, and for the most part it lands. This film plays more like a character study or more accurately a study of Eddie brocks relationship with Venom, these parts of the movie (I say parts not moments as they take up the majority of the film) are fantastic, Tom Hardys performance is yet again phenomenal his love for the character shines through. The supporting characters are a little flat and 1 diemensional and they're main purpose is aiding Eddie through the story. The Action scenes are well made for the most part the first action scene is incredible! And the last fight scene is pretty decent they're are a few low points throughout the film, but these are only seconds due to the films incredibly fast pacing that oddly suits the tone of Venoms character always demanding for things to happen immediately, impatient if you will. Some will find it hard to keep track of the discrepancies of the story due to this, as the high octane movie fails to make room for breathing. All in all a restricted yet still very enjoyable movie that will please fans and newcomers alike inviting them into Sonys new darker vision for its universe of all things marvel are too terrified to attempt... 8/10
Justice League (2017)
Playing if safe
Instead of solidifying the cult like fan base WB garnered after the decisive BVS and sustaining the tone and overarching world and atmosphere. WB decided to instead fold under the pressure of what had been carved in stone as a successful superhero film and is therefore bland and somewhat simple, while nothing is nesacarily wrong with the movie there's not much it gets right either, however considering it's BTS issues it's surprising the film ended up coherent, However as a film it is a complete departure from DCs staple ideals for their universe and ends up feeling out of place as a result.
