Unlockables

There are many different things to unlock in Super Smash Bros Brawl. You can pick unlock different trophies, fight new characters, gain new stages, and some other extra goodies.

Character Unlock Guide

Super Smash Bros Brawl gives you a total of 37 playable characters, but only 21 (excluding Zero Suit Samus and Sheik) of them are available out of the box. This means you need to earn them. To unlock a character in Brawl you will have to fulfill the requirements down below. Once you have completed the requirements a Challenger Approaching screen will appear accompanied by the silhouette of the challenger.

Some characters you have to beat in a 1 on 1 battle. Once the foe has been defeated you will unlock that character. If you lose the battle the challenger will reappear at the end of the next match, and so on. There are some exceptions to this though.

There are three ways of unlocking Captain Falcon.

1.    Play 70 matches in Brawl mode, and then defeat Captain Falcon

2.    Get Captain Falcon to join your party in the Subspace Emissary

3.    Complete Classic Mode in under 12 minutes (Normal or higher), and then defeat Captain Falcon

Falco

There are three ways of unlocking Falco

1. Play 50 matches in Brawl mode, and then defeat Falco
2. Get Falco to join your party in the Subspace Emissary
3. Complete a 100-Man Brawl, and then defeat Falco

Ganondorf

There are four ways of unlocking Ganondorf

1. Play 200 matches in Brawl mode, and then defeat Ganondorf
2. Get Ganondorf to join your party in the Subspace Emissary
3. Complete Classic mode with Zelda on Normal Difficulty, and then defeat Ganondorf
4. Complete Classic mode with Link on Hard Difficulty, and then defeat Ganondorf

Jigglypuff

There are four ways of unlocking Jigglypuff

1. Play 350 matches in Brawl mode, and then defeat Jigglypuff
2. Complete the Subspace Emissary, then Classic mode with any character (exept Ike), and then defeat it
3. Complete the Subspace Emissary. Then return to The Swamp (Stage 18). When you are firing yourself from the barrels you will see a floating door above a platform, enter it and you will fight Jigglypuff. Defeat Jigglypuff
4. Complete the Subspace Emissary, then complete all the even matches (up to 20), and then defeat Jigglypuff in a blast

Lucario

There are three ways of unlocking Lucario

1. Play 100 matches in Brawl mode, and then defeat Lucario
2. Get Lucario to join your party in the Subspace Emissary
3. Beat Target Smash on all difficulties, and then defeat Lucario

Luigi

There are three ways of unlocking Luigi

1. Play 22 matches in Brawl mode, and then defeat Luigi
2. Get Luigi to join your party in the Subspace Emissary
3. Complete classic with no continues, and then defeat Luigi

Marth

There are three ways of unlocking Marth

1. Play 10 matches in Brawl mode, and then defeat Marth
2. Get Marth to join your party in the Subspace Emissary
3. Complete Classic Mode, and then defeat Marth

Mr. Game & Watch

There are four ways of unlocking Mr. Game & Watch

1. Play 250 matches in Brawl mode, and then defeat Mr. Game & Watch
2. Get Mr. Game & Watch to join your party in the Subspace Emissary
3. Complete Classic Mode with all characters
4. Complete Target Smash with 30 different characters on any one difficulty level, then defeat Mr. Game & Watch

Ness

There are three ways of unlocking Ness

1. Reflect 10 projectiles, and defeat Ness
2. Get Ness to join your party in the Subspace Emissary
3. Complete 5 Brawl matches, and defeat Ness

R.O.B (Robotic Operating Buddy)

There are three ways of unlocking R.O.B

1. Play 160 matches in Brawl mode, and then defeat R.O.B
2. Get R.O.B to join your party in the Subspace Emissary
3. Get 250 trophies, and defeat R.O.B

Snake

There are three ways of unlocking Snake

1. Play 130 matches in Brawl mode, and then defeat Snake
2. Get Snake to join your party in the Subspace Emissary
3. Play 15 matches on Shadow Moses Island, and defeat Snake

Sonic

There are four ways of unlocking Sonic

1. Play 300 matches in Brawl mode, and then defeat Sonic
2. Complete The Subspace Emissary
3. Complete Classic Mode with 10 characters, and defeat Sonic
4. Play over 10 hours of VS mode

Toon Link

There are three ways of unlocking Toon Link

1. Play 400 matches in Brawl mode, and then defeat Toon Link
2. Enter the first door in The Forest (Stage 9), and defeat Toon Link. (Must have already completed the Subspace Emissary)
3. Complete the Subspace Emissary, then complete Classic Mode with any character, and defeat Toon Link

Wolf

There are three ways of unlocking Wolf

1. Play 450 matches in Brawl mode, and then defeat Wolf
2. Beat Boss Rush Mode with Fox, and defeat Wolf. (Must have already completed the Subspace Emissary)
3. Play as Fox on The Ruins (Stage 14). At the end of the second part of the stage there is a platform that moves downwards slowly and there will be some spikes on the wall. There will be a door miss it! The platform will keep moving down and will disappear and you will fall. You should see another door there enter it. Defeat Wolf to unlock him.
