ELECTRIC VEHICLE FAQ
An Electric Vehicle (EV) trades a gasoline-powered engine for all-electric motors. Instead of an internal combustion engine (ICE), an EV uses high-powered batteries that are charged to replenish their energy.
Using an electric motor and a rechargeable battery pack, EVs convert electric energy into power for propulsion. Electric motors generate more torque and provide instant acceleration while generating less noise pollution.
No, electric vehicles don’t have a transmission. Electric motors can distribute power to the wheels directly, eliminating the need for multispeed transmissions and accompanying gear shifts. This creates a new driving experience because the electric motor generates more torque through a wide range of RPM.
No, electric vehicles don’t need traditional oil changes. Since they don’t have internal combustion engines, they don’t have as many moving parts that need lubrication via motor oil. However, EVs still require maintenance to keep them performing at their best.
Currently, the Jeep® Brand has the Wagoneer S. The Wagoneer S is a premium all-electric SUV that delivers a combination of elevated comfort and exhilarating performance. Plus, the Jeep® Brand is currently working on evolving its 4xe electrified lineup.
While charging times differ from vehicle to vehicle, they also depend on the type of charger being used. For example, fully charging the Wagoneer S can take up to 3 days with a Level 1 charger, between 8-10 hours with a level 2 charger or between 15-60 minutes on a Level 3 DC fast charger.
The cost of charging an electric vehicle depends on where you charge it. Generally, charging at home is typically cheaper than using a public charging station. While on longer trips, you’ll need to use a public charger, but these stations can be less expensive than a fill-up of gasoline or diesel fuel.
PLUG-IN ELECTRIC HYBRID VEHICLE FAQ
A PHEV is a Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle. PHEVs have a gasoline engine and an electric motor powered by a battery that can be charged by plugging it in. Plug-in hybrid innovation gives Jeep® Brand vehicles an all-electric range as well as a mix of instant torque, thrilling acceleration and outstanding utility.
A PHEV SUV combines a gasoline engine and an electric motor powered by a battery that can be recharged by plugging it in. With a PHEV SUV, you can drive using all-electric power, the gas engine or a combination of both. PHEV technology gives Jeep® Brand vehicles, like Wrangler 4xe, a boost in torque and traction, while E-Selec driving modes enable you to optimize performance on every ride.
The decision is up to you! 4xe Plug-In Hybrid vehicles have three E-Selec driving modes, and you can switch between electricity, gasoline or a combination of the two. Electric Mode uses only battery power for low-emissions zones in cities or quiet off-roading with maximum torque and horsepower, while e-Save Mode reserves battery power for later. Hybrid Mode gives you the best of both worlds.
Wrangler 4xe and Grand Cherokee 4xe are available for purchase. Wrangler 4xe plug-in hybrid technology gives you the confidence and freedom to take every adventure to new places. Grand Cherokee 4xe electrifies the most awarded SUV ever built, offering incredible levels of style, comfort and outstanding utility. Choose between exhilarating 4x4 capability and sophisticated performance.

You can charge Jeep® Brand plug-in hybrid electric vehicles with an in-home charger, like the included Level 1 charging cable, which charges the battery in 12-13 hours, or the simple-to-use available Free2move Charge Level 2 Charger, which charges up the battery in as little as 2-3 hours for the Grand Cherokee 4xe and approximately 2 and a half hours for Wrangler 4xe. You can also charge the battery in approximately 30 minutes at Level 3 DC fast charge public charging stations, which can be found near places like shopping centers, hotels, government offices and other businesses.
The Wrangler 4xe includes a Level 1 (120-volt) charging cable, which can charge the battery in 12-13 hours using a regular home outlet.
No! You only need to charge your 4xe plug-in hybrid vehicle when you want to, and you’ll still get hybrid fuel economy. With Wrangler 4xe having an EPA estimated total driving range of 370 miles and Grand Cherokee 4xe having an EPA estimated total driving range of 470 miles, you can still take on all kinds of adventures without the need to charge every night. Now, the major benefit of regular charging is that you also gain an all-electric range that’s typically enough for daily driving.
Yes, it's fine to partially charge the battery. 4xe vehicles are equipped with specialized software that manages battery usage over its life cycle to optimize battery performance and longevity. You can also schedule charging during a certain time, like at night when electric utility charges are generally less expensive. This allows you to get a full charge when the vehicle is not in use.
Absolutely! 4xe vehicles are plug-in hybrid electric SUVs that combine a powerful electric motor with a gasoline engine, which means that even when they aren’t charged, you can still drive using the gasoline engine.
