We work with employer partners to provide meaningful, full-time jobs for people returning from incarceration, with criminal backgrounds, and in recovery from substance use. We offer free coaching to all our hires through our exclusive 12-Week Starting Over Program, which is now deployed in prisons across the United States at no cost to participants.

    Story time! Want to see a real life example of skills-first hiring? 5 years ago, I met Carlos inside the Hutchins unit. He was nearing the end of his 10 year prison sentence. When we meet with candidates, we try to focus on their ultimate career goals, while reverse-engineering their path to work up to where they want to be. Carlos had a dream of being a Chef or running his own food truck business. However, we told Carlos that we need to start with what we can get and work our way up to that. He agreed. We hired him for a warehouse position for his work-release program, where he rode the bus to and from work every day. He was offered $16 per hour to start and within 2.5 years, he left making $31 per hour. About a year ago, we had an opportunity to hire a Chef for a new restaurant. Of course, the first person we called was Carlos! Fast forward to today: He's stayed sober, and has been at the Neon Cactus in Allen TX for over a year. He gets to work where he's passionate, has full benefits, and can provide for his family. At Cornbread Hustle, we live for stories like this. We don't just place our candidates and move on.
