It’s Spooky Season with the Homecoming Project! Are you a host 🧡 or a 👻 ghost? Our team hit the streets in Long Beach to knock on doors and connect with people willing to open their homes to the program — and handed out some Halloween candy along the way. 🎃 The Homecoming Project pairs people leaving prison after long sentences with hosts in the community who have a spare bedroom and want to help someone get back on their feet. Participants get a warm, welcoming place to live while they focus on their reentry, and hosts receive a monthly stipend of up to $1,550. If you’re interested in opening your home to the Homecoming Project, reach out to us!

Impact Justice reposted this Earlier this week, I had the honor of moderating a powerful conversation for the JustUS Coordinating Council’s Speaker Series — “Pathways in Action: Housing Models That Move with People.” The discussion brought together leaders working at the intersections of housing, justice, and community healing — including Steven Medeiros (Kanani) and Terri Power from the Corporation for Supportive Housing (CSH Housing Solutions) and Daniel Howe, founder of The Howe Project and Earnest House. Together, we explored what it really takes to create housing solutions that move with people — models that honor dignity, meet people where they are, and bridge reentry, health, and housing systems. From Impact Justice's Homecoming Project, which reimagines reentry housing through shared economy models and community partnership, to CSH’s policy and advocacy work shaping permanent supportive housing nationwide, to The Howe Project’s grassroots leadership in Arizona—each example reaffirmed a truth we all know deeply: Housing isn’t one-size-fits-all. Partnerships—both likely and unlikely—are what make an ecosystem where no one falls through the cracks. A JCC Speaker Series on partnerships, funding, and implementation that work. “It is the [California Justice Leaders] program that got me here. My education alone would not have done it. For the first time in a really long time, I felt included and believed in — and learned how to believe in myself.” Our California Justice Leaders program is mobilizing formerly incarcerated young people to redefine their roles as leaders in their communities for the next generation and beyond. We’re so proud to see California Justice Leader Crystal highlighted in this most recent impact report from National Football League (NFL) and Inspire Change. Impact Justice reposted this This was profoundly impacting! As a country we must do better! We need to talk about prison food. Here’s why: Roughly half of American adults have had an incarcerated loved one — and nearly 2 million people eat behind bars every day. So why aren’t more people talking about this? We hit the streets of Oakland to talk to real people about the hidden food crisis in jails and prisons. Our new book Eating Behind Bars: Ending the Hidden Punishment of Food in Prison will change the way you view the power — and peril — of what’s on your plate.
