Seven years ago, Meek Mill's sentencing pulled back the curtain on a system that punishes people for minor missteps, NOT new crimes. Every 3 minutes, someone in America is sent to prison for a supervision violation — most are non-criminal, as minor as missing a check-in with their probation officer. Meek’s experience inspired him to help others caught in the same cycle. Since then, REFORM has helped pass 22 bills across 12 states, creating real pathways for individuals on supervision to rebuild their lives. These laws promote accountability, reward progress, and strengthen families and communities. This movement started with one story, and now it’s rewriting hundreds of thousands. It's time to transform the U.S. criminal justice system
About us
REFORM Alliance aims to transform probation and parole by changing laws, systems and culture to create real pathways to work and wellbeing. REFORM is bringing together business leaders, advocates, and bipartisan coalitions of policymakers on common-sense solutions to transform probation and parole, dramatically reduce the number of people needlessly trapped in the criminal justice system, and dramatically increase the number of people moving from supervision to work and wellbeing. Our vision is a justice system that holds people accountable and redirects back to work and wellbeing. Instead of keeping people trapped in a revolving door from probation/parole to prison — which costs taxpayers billions of dollars — we’re working to move people from the justice system into stability. Right now, people under probation or parole make up the vast majority of our criminal justice system, yet the issue has received relatively little attention. "

🚨 Right now, federal supervision officers report being overwhelmed with caseloads that exceed twice what’s recommended by best practices (sometimes up to 100 cases per officer). This forces them to spend precious resources monitoring low-risk individuals who are working hard, following the rules, and supporting their families – while others who pose a higher public safety risk don’t receive appropriate levels of supervision. The Safer Supervision Act fixes this by prioritizing public safety, cutting red tape, and enabling officers to focus where they’re needed most. This commonsense reform builds on similar reforms that were passed in Missouri, South Carolina, and Arizona that produced better public safety outcomes: ✅ Let officers focus on increasing public safety and rehabilitation ✅ Saves taxpayer dollars by reducing waste ✅ Helps people get back to work and family 🖊️ Sign on to support the Safer Supervision Act: https://lnkd.in/etvipaYM #SaferSupervisionAct #CriminalJusticeReform #REFORMAlliance #SecondChances

🚨 Big news from D.C.! The Safer Supervision Act has officially been introduced in the Senate and House. This common-sense bill will restore federal supervision to its original purpose: protecting public safety and supporting success for people returning home from federal prison. A huge thank you to our bill champions: Senator Mike Lee (R-UT), Senator Chris Coons (D-DE), Rep. Mark Harris (R-NC 8), and Rep. Laurel Lee (R-FL 15)for leading the charge for safer supervision. Together, we’re proving that accountability and opportunity can go hand in hand. 💪 Learn more and get involved. https://lnkd.in/ec7rPCdA

The Safer Supervision Act has been introduced in Congress to ensure federal supervision is fair, focused, and effective. In recent years, twice as many people on federal supervised release were revoked for simple technical violations than were arrested for new crimes. Meanwhile, probation officers report their caseloads being so overwhelmed that they can’t provide adequate support or monitoring to those with the highest risks and needs. The Safer Supervision Act right-sizes the system, so officers can focus their attention on what matters most: protecting public safety and supporting reentry success. This legislation will keep families together, reduce recidivism, save taxpayer dollars, and keep communities safe. 🖊️ Sign up to support the Safer Supervision Act: https://tr.ee/MoZ3oRYKH9 #SaferSupervisionAct #CriminalJusticeReform

🚨 Judith was invited to the White House to advocate for others—then was told her visit could send her back to prison. That’s the reality for thousands under federal supervision: one minor rule violation can undo years of progress. Supervision should help people rebuild, not hold them back. The SAFER Supervision Act restores its original purpose—supporting success, protecting public safety, and cutting red tape. 🔗 Learn more: https://lnkd.in/ec7rPCdA #SAFERSupervisionAct

🗳️ Tomorrow is Election Day! If you’re on probation, parole, or federal supervision, you might still be able to vote, but voting laws vary by state. Some states automatically restore your voting rights when you come home from incarceration, while others require you to petition to regain those rights. If you’re currently on supervision, be sure to check your eligibility status!

“Being able to relate to people—being able to validate their feelings, being able to validate their humanity—in some small way helps bring them back into the fold.” Sheriff Tony Thompson in Waterloo, Iowa, understands the critical role mental health plays in preparing people to return to their communities. That’s why he makes sure his officers are trauma-informed and prepared to relate to people even in their darkest moments. This is how change happens.
