Cambridge Centre for Animal Rights Law
Education Administration Programs
Dedicated to the study and understanding of legal, fundamental rights for non-human animals.
About us
The Cambridge Centre for Animal Rights Law is dedicated to the understanding, study and teaching of legal rights for non-human animals based in Cambridge, UK. Why animal rights law? The welfare of animals has been on moral, social, and legal agenda since the 19th century. The idea that animals could be regarded as holders of fundamental rights akin to those of human beings has also existed for many years, but has received less attention for a variety of reasons, including its fundamental challenge to the view of animals as property. Perhaps as a result there is relatively little academic study into the jurisprudence and legal foundations of animal rights laws and their social and economic consequences. Our Centre wants to remedy this situation.

A voice for animals, a beacon of hope, a fierce advocate for our planet. Today, we mourn the loss of Dr Jane Goodall. A primatologist, zoologist, anthropologist, and beyond, she brought humans closer to non-human animals through her groundbreaking research and tireless advocacy. Her legacy of championing animal rights, planet protection, and passion will continue to inspire change for decades to come. 🌍
