This year's World Mitochondrial Disease Week theme is Illuminate Tomorrow: Revitalize Your Energy. Large deletions in the mitochondrial genome are a significant contributor to mitochondrial diseases. The proportion of mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) carrying these large deletions is a critical factor in determining phenotype and clinical outcomes. In this retrospective study, we aim to explore low-level large deletions in young patients that may contribute to mitochondrial diseases. Learn more in the full study! #ThinkBG #WorldMitoWeek2024 #IlluminateTomorrow Mito Foundation

I was honored to attend Capital Analytics Invest: Houston Launch Conference along with Madisson Moynahan. Our CEO Kengo Takishima did a great job speaking on Baylor Genetics contributions to the Texas healthcare ecosystem. I left feeling a deep sense of pride for the town I call home. Houston’s strength is in its diversity—it’s what brings us together and drives our innovation. Growing up, I saw this diversity firsthand. My dad worked in oil and gas, and I was lucky enough to tag along, getting a close-up view of turbines and advanced reciprocating products that power not just our country, but the world. On the flip side, my mom worked in healthcare, and I spent countless hours roaming the halls of Dunn and Jones Tower at the Texas Medical Center, dreaming that one day my name could be on one of those doors. While I leaned into healthcare, Houston remains the perfect blend of industries that shape our future. It’s exciting to see Houstonians coming together across —healthcare, energy, education, and aerospace—to solve the world’s biggest challenges. I’m proud to be part of this incredible community and the innovations happening right here in our backyard. 🌎✨ #InvestHouston #ProudHoustonian #Innovation #Healthcare #Energy #DiversityAndInnovation #thinkBG #Geneticsequencing #houstonstrong

Today, I had the privilege of speaking on the Revolutionizing Healthcare panel at Invest: Houston, where I shared Baylor Genetics’ patient-centered vision for the future of genomic medicine. We don’t just aim to meet the needs of our patients and providers—we strive to anticipate and exceed them. We’re harnessing the power of AI and machine learning to optimize lab operations and deliver faster, more accurate results. We also recognize the impact of telemedicine in expanding access to care, especially in underserved areas. Our partnership with Baylor College of Medicine allows us to further this mission, enhancing personalized medicine and reducing health disparities. Through initiatives like The Texome Project, we provide genetic counseling and follow-up care to ensure that every patient—regardless of background or income—has access to the life-changing benefits of genomic healthcare. Genetic testing is the key to personalized medicine. It informs clinical decisions, empowers patients and families with critical health insights, and improves health outcomes. Our mission remains clear: To end the diagnostic odyssey for patients by translating scientific innovations into accessible clinical solutions. It was an honor to participate in this conversation with other leaders helping shape the future of healthcare. Thank you to Capital Analytics for hosting a great event! #GeneticTesting #Innovation #AI #PersonalizedMedicine
