Top 5 patterns from analysis of 225 1:1 job-search support call notes: 1. LinkedIn isn’t selling the story. At minimum your LinkedIn should reflect your resume, but it can be much more than that. In can give you social credibility critical in many industries. Put your best foot forward and own your successes. 2. Resume not tailored / no impact You should have a metric or number that showcases your impact in the first sentence of your summary section. And most of your bullet points should have the same. 3. Sending too few applications. Aim for 15 well tailored applications per week. Many are way below and same are way above. This is the sweet spot. 4. Networking issues. Don’t over think it. Reach out to your network and let them know you are looking and what you are looking for. When you apply, message the hiring manager or leadership at the company expressing enthusiasm and connecting the dots. Don’t annoy, but get your name out there. 5. Interview storytelling. Learn the STAR method for interviewing responses. Be ready with lost of questions to ask them. Be adaptable and focus on connecting while knowing your story and why you are the right fit. "A hammer can’t build a whole house." Use AI as one tool in your job search and career toolkit. Here are four ways to use AI effectively in your job search: 1️⃣ BETTER USE OF METRICS AND NUMBERS: I built a custom GPT to help tease out the key metrics and numbers that will help you stand out. Comment "Impact". and I'll send it! 2️⃣ A BETTER SUMMARY: We analyzed 72k resumes and found that concise, impact-focused summaries increase interview success rates. Comment "Summary" and I'll send our summary generator that scans your resume against a job description and surfaces the best metrics to include in the summary. 3️⃣ A BETTER LINKEDIN PROFILE: I've analyzed over 300+ LinkedIn profiles and created a custom GPT that will review your profile and offer fixes to common mistakes. Comment "LinkedIn" and I will send it along. 4️⃣ A BETTER TAILORED RESUME: Huntr analyzed over 1 million applications and found that tailored resumes receive 2 times more interviews than generic ones. Huntr now offers two free job-tailored resumes to teach you how to do this effectively. Please feel free to reach out if you need help in your search, especially if you've been searching for more than three months.

The best time to get a job is now. Average time to offer is down from a peak in July of 71 days to 65 days in September. But here's the thing... October and November are traditionally good months for hiring before a slow down in December BUT that slow down happens on both sides. There's less interviews being scheduled AND less applications submitted The winning strategy? Consistently apply to 10-15 jobs per week with well-tailored resumes and thoughtful applications regardless of the time of year. If you aren't getting a few interviews per months from this strategy... Pivot. Happy to help.

This Huntr study shows that a concise resume summary is the way to go. Here's how to write a great summary: 1. Identify the most impactful thing you've done in your career as it relates to the job you are applying to and share the success metric IN THE FIRST SENTENCE Don't bury the lead, put your best foot forward. Often your resume is being reviewed in just a few seconds meaning the first sentence counts. 2. For the next two- three sentences, connect that stat to the job description and explain why you are enthusiastic about the role. Mention the role and company name. Keep it short, direct, and powerful. Custom tailor the summary section FOR EVERY APPLICATION You can try this free tool in the comment section to help.

“I paid an expert to review my resume” Proceeds to show me a terrible resume that has landed them zero interviews in 200 applications. Not all experts are the same. Follow data-backed advice that leads to (on average) 1-3 interviews per twenty applications. 1. Tailor at least the summary and skills to match the job description (this is necessary these days) 2. Find jobs on higher converting sites like Wellfound, Welcome To The Jungle, and even Indeed. Or simply run Google searches for your target job role. 3. Have a well filled out education section, avoid listing too many certificates, include your LinkedIn, make it two pages. 4. Fill out your LinkedIn to match this new resume and focus on only ONE target role title. Reach out if you need help (for free)

I met with 15 job seekers this week for free 15 min job search support calls. I have spots open for 15 more next week. Here was the recurring theme: Pick a lane. So many want to say that the can do anything and everything but the recruiter doesn’t care. They want your resume and LinkedIn to align with the job that they’re hiring for This means that the you pick a target job title and you tailor all of your materials to that specific title. You can always pivot but should never try to apply to more than one target role title at a time Pick a lane. Apply to 50 jobs with the same title that matches with your linked and resume. If you don’t get at least 2 intereviews. Pivot. Reach out if you need help.

Sam has been a tremendous help. I now understand why my resume was underperforming and lacked personality. While I’ve often turned to AI tools like ChatGPT and Microsoft Copilot, they simply didn’t deliver the same results or impact that Huntr.co did.
