Test engineers at GE Aerospace spend countless hours testing jet engines against the elements — hail, dust, ice, and monsoon-level rain — in a crucial effort to test an engine’s reliability and endurance to keep our customers fleets flying. Take a peek into five tests: ❄️ Ice cloud — This test replicates the effect of flying through icing conditions in the presence of water vapor. 🧊 Icebird — Where a 2.5 pound piece of blue ice is designed to simulate a bird strike. ☁️ Hailstone — During test campaigns, engineers can target certain locations on the blade, pinpointing exactly where a hailstone will impact. 💦 Water ingestion — Where over one thousand gallons of water per minute helps prove an engine can operate in the most challenging weather conditions. 🎯 Whirligig test — Test engineers precisely target projectiles not just at certain blades, but specific areas on the blades for performance and durability testing. #GEAerospaceDAS #DubaiAirshow #NewEraOfFlight

Test Early, Test Often ⏱️ In this video, program leaders share how we’re driving innovation across commercial engine programs to deliver enhanced durability for our customers. By creating a proprietary dust mixture to replicate extreme operating conditions, we’ve strengthened our ability to test hardware updates for #GEnxEngines and #CFMLEAP engines, leveraging real-world field insights. For the first time, we also conducted dust ingestion tests on the #GE9X engine prior to entry-into-service, setting a new standard for pre-service validation. These groundbreaking advancements are shaping the future of flight, with lessons learned fueling the #CFMRISE program. #GEAerospace #aviation
