DOAJ was pleased to be involved in the International Overseeing Committee for this year’s 3rd Global Summit on Diamond Open Access in Bengaluru, India. The release of the Bengaluru Roadmap and Action Plan on Diamond Open Access reflects the deliberations of participants from 36 countries and sets out a shared global framework for transitioning scholarly communication toward a model that is free for authors and readers, community-governed, and grounded in the principle that scientific knowledge is a public good. We encourage our community to work with us to deliver and advance this coordinated global vision across the six priority action areas. 🔹 Roadmap: https://lnkd.in/gV6FKmqz 🔹 Zenodo: https://lnkd.in/dCQsNuuH #DiamondOA #DOAJ #OpenAccess

DOAJ Head of Community and Communications Katrine Sundsbø doing what she does best - communicating the value of #OpenAccess in an inclusive, warm and informative way - and bringing the colour and joy to connect with our global community 🫶
This week I did a short presentation on what I do for work at DOAJ, organised by KRYR Cowork (a local co-working space where I rent a part-time desk)☺️ It’s really difficult to explain the whole world of open access publishing without going down lots of rabbit holes… so I created a mini game 😄 In my local dialect, we have three words (fole, kjøle, gale) that all mean roughly the same thing - "a lot" or "very". They can be used as standalone words too in a positive or negative way, it depends on the context. The words have the perfect ambiguousness to explain complex things: I created three cards for everyone and asked people to vote on statements linked to open access. Did they think the statement was a lot, a lot or… a lot? 🤭 The cards were colour coded with red, green and yellow, so they were evaluating each statement depending on what they thought: 🟢 Fole - wooah (but I think it’s true) 🟡 Kjøle - wooah (there might be some truth in that) 🔴 Gale - wooah (no way that is true) After discussing some statements, I spoke about DOAJ and the work that goes into managing an open infrastructure that is community led. I got lots of questions, and as I was getting them I felt so lucky that I work at an organisation where can show and share so much information, because of the high transparency ⭐ 🙏 Thank you to all those who joined on Tuesday, it was so much fun 🎉 Thank you to KRYR for organising the event and for the fantastic space you’ve created for all of us in Molde who work online but miss seeing people in person 🫶 ❤️

❓ Do you work with #journals? Are you setting up a new journal? Are you training a team? 🧰 The OA Journals Toolkit should be your start point: https://lnkd.in/gSCkAd43 A free resource from Open Access Scholarly Publishing Association and DOAJ with information on how to start or run an #openaccess journal
We asked OA Journals Toolkit users, Rachel B. and Leah Maughan from Northumbria University about their use of the Toolkit. What brought you to the OA Journals Toolkit? In 2023/2024, I (Rachel) was seconded to a role specifically to look at our internal Open Access journals platform (Northumbria Journals). As part of this project, we had a few new titles in the works, and it made sense to spend some time looking at how we onboarded those new titles. The OA Journals Toolkit was essential for following the step-by-step guidance for what things were necessary as journal platform manager taking over an unloved system, creating webpages to introduce Open Access publishing using our platform, as well as advising new users on what kind of things to think about when starting their new journal (policies, publishing schedule, etc.). How are you using the Toolkit in your work now? As part of our ongoing work with Northumbria Journals, I always send a link to the OA Journals Toolkit as part of the initial conversation with interested parties, as I think it gives a fantastic overview of what kind of workload might need to be considered, as well as the practicalities of committing to a new title. I always get good feedback as the toolkit is extremely easy to use, read, and a great starting point for anyone interested in OA publishing. What's your favourite feature of the Toolkit? 🔹 Being able to link to / download individual sections of the toolkit is really helpful, as well as being able to download the “whole thing”. 🔹 CC BY Licence, knowing it is freely usable and made my life a lot easier! 🔹 The depth of each “article” is really helpful. Some sections are not relevant in our case (charging for the journal, eg.) but I appreciate that this is here and contextualises the wider OA journals landscape. 🔹 Knowing the editorial board is made of people who are users and champions of OA publishing. Visit the OA Journals Toolkit: https://lnkd.in/dP_eJ-GA Are you using the Toolkit? Please get in touch to tell us about how it is helping in your work via bernie.folan@oaspa.org Please share information about this entirely free resource from DOAJ and Open Access Scholarly Publishing Association so others may benefit. DOAJ and OASPA are very grateful for the ongoing support provided by the Editorial Board in keeping the Open Access Journals Toolkit up to date. Alex Mendonça, Andy Byers, Andy Nobes, Clarissa F. D. 🌐 This year’s annual DOAJ team meeting was held in Istanbul, Türkiye 5-7 May 🔴 The event provided an invaluable opportunity to step away from daily routines and focus collectively on our strategy, values and priorities, while engaging in collaborative workshops, operational discussions and planning. 🕌 Set in the vibrant city of Istanbul (where Europe and Asia meet), the location symbolised connection across borders and cultures. As a small team widely distributed across Europe, Africa, the Asia‑Pacific region and the Americas, this annual gathering offered a rare opportunity to transcend geography, time zones ( ... and screens), bringing our perspectives together in one shared physical space. 🔴 Particular thanks to Koç University Libraries who hosted the team in their beautiful Research Center for Anatolian Civilizations (ANAMED) Library at Merkez Han on İstiklal Caddesi – thank you Çiğdem Yıldırım and Tuba Akbaytürk 👏 #KoçÜniversitesi #AkademikYayıncılık #Kütüphanecilik #DOAJ #planning #DOAJTeam Joanna Ball Dominic Mitchell Katrine Sundsbø Matt Hodgkinson Brendan O.
