What a kickoff to University of California, San Francisco’s National Transgender Health Summit with the morning keynote on the State of Science by FOLX’s own Jae Corman, PhD! ⚠️ When safe, affirming hormone care is priced out—or miles away—people DIY, and the data show the danger. ✅ A nationally representative Vanderbilt study found licensed GAHT cuts severe psychological distress by 65% with no added medical risk. ❌ Getting hormones from unlicensed sources linked to higher odds of cancer, diabetes, heart attack, and blood clots. People turn to DIY because they can’t find an affirming provider nearby, can’t afford traditional care, or can’t wait months for an appointment. 🏥 FOLX Health fixes that gap by providing care with licensed, affirming clinicians within 2 days from anywhere in the US. A Harvard-led study found that lesbian, gay, and bisexual adults are significantly more likely to delay or skip necessary healthcare, often because of cost. It’s a clear reminder of how urgent it is to make care more accessible, affordable, and affirming. New data out of Massachusetts confirms what we hear every day: queer and trans people can’t find providers who get them: 🏥 LGBTQIA+ adults are more likely to skip care because they can’t find culturally competent providers—even when cost isn’t the issue. 🧠 They’re 3.8x more likely to consider suicide. 🧑🤝🧑 And nearly 1 in 4 Gen Zers now identifies as LGBTQIA+.
