The biggest question facing higher education right now: what do teaching, learning, and research become in the age of AI? Most of us are running away from it. We latch onto the next efficient, convenient thing and answer the small sub-questions, all while avoiding the bigger one underneath. The bigger one is harder, and it reshapes the fundamentals. Authorship, for a start. A student is now co-authoring with a tool, not a person you can talk to, so what does authorship even mean? And if the work is co-created, how do we assess knowledge at all? No one has the full answer yet. What the moment calls for is the whole higher-ed ecosystem asking the real questions together, and leaning into interdisciplinary learning to work through them. The institutions that face the big question now will shape what comes next. The ones that keep answering sub-questions will be shaped by it. It is no exaggeration to say that the finale of Kissflow's Leadership Program (KLP) was a one of the kind experience, a visit to the HQ of The ePlane Company to see their design, R&D, manufacturing and testing facilities. A guided tour gave our current and future leaders a glimpse into what all goes into not just building a new product or category, but creating a whole new industry itself. Having Professor Satya Chakravarthy, the visionary behind it sharing their goals, mindset and journey over the last 7 years was the icing on the cake. He kept it simple, direct and shared nuances/depth that only a Aeronautics professor from IIT Madras can do. We not only learnt lessons in building organizations, courage to walk the unknown path, to persevere, but also left inspired and excited to see such amazing innovation happening in our own backyard! There is so much we can learn/share from each other.
