The dedicated Hawaii Pacific Health Cancer Centers team served up breast cancer awareness at the University of Hawaii Women's Volleyball “Dig Pink Night” Oct. 27. Fans played a spin-the-wheel game with questions about mammograms and took home pink HPH-branded hand sanitizer sprays. Our friends at Na Wahine Racing promoted registrations for the HPH Women’s 10K & 5K Fun Run. University of Hawaii Marching Band Assistant Director and Concert Band Director Gwen Nakamura, fondly known as the “Balloon Hat Lady,” donned her custom balloon hat embodying the spirit of breast cancer awareness among the crowd of cheering fans! #BreastCancerAwarenessMonth

We are honored to congratulate Dr. Darryl Glaser for being named as one of this year's Healthcare Association of Hawaii Healthcare Heroes! As a dedicated pediatric hematologist/oncologist at Kapiolani Medical Center for Women & Children, Dr. Glaser goes above and beyond to provide compassionate, expert care to his patients. This year, he was nominated by a patient family for providing extraordinary care to not only their daughter, but to their entire family throughout her cancer journey. "Dr. G, as she calls him, won Rezen's heart right away with visits just to play with toys together," said Rezen's mother, Ristina. "He is more than our doctor; he is a part of our family. Now, I see the 'G' stands for 'grandpa' because that's the type of love and support we get from him." Ristina and her son, Adonai, helped honor Dr. Glaser during a presentation ceremony held at Kapiolani earlier this year. They carried with them a photo of Rezen, who could not attend the ceremony but was there in spirit. The Healthcare Hero Award is true testament to the incredible impact Dr. Glaser has on the lives he has touched. Every year, the HAH Healthcare Hero Award honors five remarkable health care professionals who have provided extraordinary care for a patient or loved one in a way that will always be remembered. Mahalo, Dr. Glaser, for your heart, skill and deep support for every patient and family you serve. You are a true inspiration to us all! Dr. Glaser and four other HAH Healthcare Heroes will be honored at the HAH Awards and Scholarship Gala Saturday, Oct. 26.

This Medical Assistants Recognition Week, Oct. 21-25, we stand by its theme, “Bridging the Gap Between Patients and Quality Care,” which celebrates medical assistants’ expansive contributions and highlights how they are partners in health care, providing continuity, compassion, and empathy for patients. We are proud to join the American Association of Medical Assistants and health care organizations nationwide in honoring our medical assistants for their pivotal role in building stronger patient relationships. Medical assistants bring thoughtfulness, warmth, and a commitment to bridging the gap between patients and quality care. They are consummate professionals who perform a wide range of administrative and clinical roles with skill, dedication, and loyalty. From welcoming patients to assisting physicians during an examination, their services are too numerous to list. They create seamless interactions, ensuring patients receive necessary care while also providing invaluable support for our providers as integral members of our care teams. We want to take this opportunity to acknowledge our Hawaii Pacific Health Medical Group medical assistants and express our heartfelt appreciation for all they do in building stronger relationships with our patients and supporting our health care team at our HPH medical centers and facilities! #HPHOhana #MedicalAssistantsRecognitionWeek #MARWeek

Great finds and satisfied tastebuds at the HPH Human Resources Division Makers Market and Philanthropy team’s Tutu’s Philanthropy Snack Shop Oct. 18. At the Makers Market, HPH employees had a blast shopping for charming plants, beautiful handcrafted items, scrumptious baked goods and other fun knick-knacks. Tempting the tastebuds at Tutu's Philanthropy Snack Shop were yummy selections of ono kine grinds. Local favorites like assorted musubi, mini bentos, manapua and pork hash were jumping off the menu and into hungry tummies! Funds raised will support programs and services at our four medical centers that would otherwise not be possible. Mahalo to the teams who made this event a great success!
