This Refugee Week, we're celebrating the theme of Courage and recognising the strength, resilience and contributions of people seeking safety. As we mark the anniversary of the Refugee Convention, we're reaffirming our commitment to creating communities where everyone is welcomed with dignity and respect. For over 15 years, Oxfam has proudly supported Refugee Week, working alongside our partners at Counterpoints Arts to celebrate the strength, resilience and contributions of people seeking safety, and to help build communities where everyone feels welcome. Through our Shop of Sanctuary work, Oxfam shops are helping to create visible spaces of welcome and belonging across the UK. Our Refugee Week window posters and stickers are a simple but powerful way for shops to show that refugees are welcome here. We'll be sharing more of this content soon!

Of the many excellent meetings I have had this week, two really stand out. Yesterday Oxfam organised a webinar on the Ebola crisis in DRC. We heard from our Country Director Dr Manenji Mangundu about the dreadful reality of life on the ground, how people are dying totally unnecessarily and how there is a serious risk of the situation escalating into a regional crisis. Oxfam has been in DRC for decades. Our humanitarian work there is embedded within local actors and local communities, ensuring that everything we do is reacting to what they want to do. We are saving lives. But we need to do more. You can support our response here: https://lnkd.in/eZvzWQv7 Very much linked to this, I had a tremendous meeting with Laura Chow and Callum Aitken from the Postcode Lottery UK. The Postcode Lottery UK are one of the most generous and strategic funders I have ever worked with (which is a lot of funders over the last 30 years!) They give long-term flexible funding and trust their partners to know what to do. With the support Oxfam receives from Postcode Lottery UK we are able to be agile and respond quickly to emergencies. We have seen the devastating impact of the aid cuts on communities around the world, including in DRC. We therefore simply have to ensure that the funds that are in the system are supporting agile, effective, impactful work. If more funders were like the Postcode Lottery UK we would be able to save more lives in devastating situations like the DRC.

Now is the time to fight for a fair and just future, add your voice and join the RED LINE FOR PALESTINE: bit.ly/JoinTheRedLine  Take a glimpse of our recent Palestine Solidarity Dinner where we held shared conversations in solidarity with Palestinians demanding peace, justice and accountability. Our Palestinian delegation joined us to conclude their week in London, where they had been lobbying UK decision makers for a ban on trade with illegal Israeli settlements.     The genocide in Gaza continues and Palestinians in the West Bank face violent displacement and the destruction of their economy. We heard first-hand accounts of the barriers facing Palestinian producers and exporters, economic resilience and demands for justice.     Israel is violently confiscating land, demolishing homes and destroying olive groves and farms. Israeli citizens occupy these lands, creating illegal settlements which fragment the land and displace Palestinian communities. These are all RED LINES.
