Thirteen delegates representing various social service and welfare departments across South Korea met with LAHSA’s Chief of Staff, Rachel Johnson; Deputy Chief Programs Officer, Nathaniel VerGow; and Associate Director of Legislative Affairs and Policy, Jorge Tapia, to discuss how the Los Angeles Homeless Services System was developed, the programs LAHSA has implemented to address the regional homelessness crisis, and the financial support received from our partners. It was an incredible opportunity to share tools and strategies to help move people off the streets and into housing—no matter where in the world they live.

For volunteers who feel a little nervous about joining the Homeless Count — don’t worry. A site coordinator will guide you on the night of the count. They’ll make sure you have all the supplies you need, put you in teams of two or three, give you a specific route to cover — and that’s it. One small decision to volunteer for the Homeless Count can make a huge difference in the lives of our unhoused neighbors. Click the link to sign-up! https://count.lahsa.org/

On Thursday, October 30, Councilmember Eunisses Hernandez held a press conference to highlight the early outcomes of a multi-agency operation addressing unsheltered homelessness along a four-mile stretch of the 110 Freeway. LAHSA’s Interim CEO, Gita O’Neill, was one of seven speakers and expressed her gratitude for everyone’s contributions to getting people indoors—especially LAHSA’s outreach team, who play a pivotal role in LA’s rehousing system. As the lead agency of the Continuum of Care, LAHSA works diligently to leave no stone unturned in housing Angelenos experiencing homelessness, and we remain steadfast in that mission.

Some employees at LAHSA have lived in Los Angeles their entire lives, but never fully understood the magnitude of the homelessness crisis until joining our team. Once they dive into this work, they are reminded of our core purpose: to serve people. Meet Sam, a Housing Navigation Coordinator, and an inspiring example of what happens when passion meets purpose. He works diligently across Los Angeles County to ensure that everyone who enters the program leaves it housed. Thank you for all your hard work, Sam. You’ve helped so many Angelenos find housing.

At LAHSA’s Commission Meeting on September 26, LAHSA’s new CEO, Gita O’Neill, was warmly introduced to the commission members and reaffirmed her commitment to implementing LAHSA’s core values: accountability, collaboration, compassion, community, transparency, and integrity. Former Commissioner Katie Hill was also recognized for her service, as her time on the Commission had come to an end. Thank you, Katie — and thank you, Gita, for joining LAHSA and stepping up to the challenge. We’re glad to have you!

The LA wildfires shook the region to its core, prompting many Angelenos to put themselves in others’ shoes. The scale of this disaster drove LAHSA staff to do whatever they could to help. Without hesitation, Saul, one of our brave outreach workers, went straight to his clients in the Pasadena and Altadena area to assist them in collecting their belongings and getting into temporary hotels through the voucher program. Thank you, Saul, for being a Hero in the Heat and jumping right in to help those who needed you the most. Head over to our Youtube channel to watch more! https://lnkd.in/gdiDNaUS

The loss experienced during the LA wildfires was immeasurable. That’s why LAHSA jumped straight into assistance mode, looking for any and every way we could help. Kiowa, one of our brave outreach teammates, was in Santa Clarita lending a helping hand. She and her supervisor worked overtime, overnight, to find and support those in need. You are a Hero in the Heat, Kiowa! We at LAHSA greatly appreciate you. https://lnkd.in/gnH__cpF
