I’m speaking at DataConnect Conference hosted by Women in Analytics (WIA) Columbus this October! My session is called “What I’ve Learned on Both Sides of the Deck: Communicating Data to Leadership.” I’ve spent a lot of my career building and presenting data, and I’ve learned that getting the analysis right is only part of the job. You also have to make it easy for people to understand what matters and what to do next. I'll talk about three things that have made the biggest difference for me: starting with the end, making visualizations effortless to understand, and editing ruthlessly. I’ll also share some before and after examples of how small changes can make data much easier to understand and act on. A self-hosted Metabase instance with read-only access to data with its built-in MCP server + Claude or ChatGPT is ✨magical✨. I am sure other smarter-than-me people have already figured this out, but I think it's pretty neat. I was looking at some CMS data today and it found a data discrepancy that ultimately led me to shoot an email to the CMS Quality Payment Program (QPP) Service Center. Neat.
