Sniffnet is a cross-platform, Rust-based, fully open-source network monitoring application to help everyone keep an eye on their Internet traffic. Sniffnet is a technical tool, but at the same time it strongly focuses on the overall user experience: most of the network analyzers out there are cumbersome to use, while one of Sniffnet's cornerstones is to be usable with ease by virtually anyone. In an era dominated by network traffic encryption, Sniffnet doesn’t follow the standard monitoring approach that included reporting full packets’ payloads, but rather it provides flow-level details such as the country, the organization, the domain name, the upper-layer service, and other parameters that enable a more immediate understanding about the traffic nature. With more than 30k stars and 300k downloads, Sniffnet is today the most popular network traffic analyzer on GitHub, the renowned code hosting platform for version control and collaboration.

Recently I had the opportunity to chat with JetBrains. Sniffnet version 1.4.1 is out 🎉 Enhanced filtering capabilities with support for BPF syntax, support for monitoring the 'any' interface on Linux, and extended configurations persistence are just some of the new features introduced with this release. This is also the first version to be shipped as an AppImage for Linux, and to have a signed installer for Windows, thanks to a code signing certificate kindly provided by SignPath GmbH.
