Today, the County of Los Angeles announced a new contract for two Sikorsky S‑70i FIREHAWK® helicopters designed to strengthen 24/7 wildfire suppression, rescue and emergency medical missions across 4,000 square miles.

Introducing the S-70UAS U-Hawk, a versatile autonomous UAS that has 25% more cargo space than a typical Black Hawk. A tablet gives an operator full command of the U-Hawk aircraft from start-up to shut down. Forward loading and additional useable cabin space of the U-Hawk aircraft now offers the flexibility to accommodate oversized loads up to the same maximum gross weight. By removing the cockpit, all seats and crew stations from the aircraft, the U-Hawk helicopter becomes the first fully autonomous Black Hawk utility helicopter. The CH-53K is essential to the Marine Corps mission – transporting troops, supplies and heavy equipment across a contested battlefield. Over the next five years, we’ll build and deliver up to 99 more helicopters to meet this critical need. In Memoriam: Sergei Sikorsky, 1925 – 2025 Sergei’s love of aviation came from his father, Igor, who invented the first practical helicopter. Sergei created a lasting legacy of his own at Sikorsky and around the world. May he rest in peace.
