RED shirt Fridays, meaning Remember Everyone Deployed, are a way to show appreciation for veterans and their families – a small act that means a lot to veteran, active military parent and associate Tim Hickman. And as we wish a very happy 77th birthday to the United States Air Force, we also share our gratitude for all veterans, active military and their families, today and every day. 

We’re in the holiday spirit already, and we want to bring our customers and associates along! So, here are some tidings of joy:  We’re going to close stores again on Thanksgiving Day. We think this is a great way to thank our associates and give them time to spend with their own families.  We’ve also been hiring associates throughout the year to ensure that when a customer needs help, we’re ready! So many of Walmart’s customers love to get out into the great outdoors for hiking, camping, water sports – you name it. Since 2005, Walmart and the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation have been working together through the Acres for America program to help protect America’s natural landscapes for current and future generations.   In the month of September, we’re providing an opportunity for our customers to join us in supporting conservation in communities across the country when they shop online at Walmart.com or in the app. From Sept. 1-30, customers can donate to NFWF at checkout, and Walmart will match those donations 2:1, up to $1 million.    Over the years, Acres for America has helped conserve wildlife habitat, fostered access to the outdoors and supported local economies that rely on forestry, ranching and recreation. For example, the Kootenai Forestlands project in Montana protects habitat for a wide range of wildlife, and has plenty of opportunities for people to get outside year-round to hike, fish, kayak, ski and more.   The Acres For America program started as a simple idea – conserve one acre of wildlife habitat for every acre used to develop Walmart stores. The program has far exceeded that goal – helping spark a total impact of $1.1 billion dollars and supporting the conservation of more than 2 million acres in almost every state. Today, it is recognized as one of the leading public-private land conservation efforts in America.   We're looking forward to inviting our customers to join us in this big effort this month!
