Matt Harris reposted thisMatt Harris reposted thisFor decades, the ERP was one of the hardest systems in enterprise software to displace. The pain of migrating rarely outweighed the benefit of switching. At last, AI is changing that equation. Rillet’s ambition goes well beyond making accounting software faster or easier to use. By combining a real-time ledger, deep context from adjacent systems, and agents that can perform increasingly complex financial work, Rillet is building accounting superintelligence: a system where finance teams spend less time gathering, reconciling, and reporting information and more time applying judgment to it. What’s especially compelling is how quickly that vision is moving upmarket. Rillet first proved it could replace systems like QuickBooks. Today, larger enterprises are replacing Oracle Fusion, SAP, Workday, Great Plains, and NetSuite with Rillet, and the company now serves more than 600 finance teams across private and public companies. We’ve seen this firsthand across the Bain Capital ecosystem. When we started making introductions, we found that a surprising number of companies were already using Rillet or evaluating it. The consistent feedback was that Nic and the Rillet team understand the finance function at an unusually deep level. We are excited to participate in Rillet’s $100M Series C alongside our friends at ICONIQ, Sequoia Capital, Andreessen Horowitz, Sequoia Global Equities, Oak HC/FT, Battery Ventures, FirstMark, Scale Venture Partners, and Creandum as Nic and team build the foundation for accounting superintelligence and take on the most entrenched players in enterprise software. Matt Harris reposted thisMatt Harris reposted thisInference -- running a trained AI model to make predictions on new, unseen data -- may soon become the largest market in the world. The technology and interfaces that power it will reshape every aspect of our lives. Delivering high quality and cost effective intelligence depends on frontier models as well as on the compute infrastructure that sits beneath them. We are excited to back Etched, a company building frontier inference clusters. More simply, Etched tackles the compute constraint in delivering intelligence to the world. It has already delivered a working production system to the market, going live with Jane Street recently, with a long queue of customers to follow. This time to market is remarkable: co-founders Gavin, Robert, and Chris anticipated the need to serve production inference at scale back in 2022, back when that idea felt closer to science fiction than reality. Etched has pioneered two new paradigms of AI computing: Low Voltage Inference and Cluster Scale Memory, both of which are intended to deliver better tokenomics and lower latency for frontier AI workloads. We are proud to invest alongside Jane Street, Kleiner Perkins, Andreessen Horowitz, Sequoia Capital, Tiger Global, Neo, Primary Venture Partners, Stripes, Positive Sum, and Blackstone. Congratulations Gavin Uberti, Robert W.ti, Robert W., Chris Zhu, and the Etched team on this incredible milestone! Matt Harris reposted thisSoftware automated bits. Atoms will automate atoms. We are thrilled to back Travis Kalanick and his team as they launch a new platform for physical AI. Atoms is fundamentally rethinking the tech stack to drive industrial progress across autonomous transport and autonomous robotics. Very few founders can conceive of a vision this audacious, let alone execute it. Travis is one of them. We are proud to back Atoms as part of a $1.7B funding round alongside Andreessen Horowitz, A*, Chemistry, Uber, SV Angel, Fifth Wall, Abstract, K5, and Alpha Square Group. Gautam Gupta Anthony Levandowski Ben Horowitz Santiago Rodriguez Lebrija Kevin Hartz Bennett Siegel Kristina Shen Bain Capital Ventures (BCV) Enrique Salem Ajay Agarwal Abby Meyers Joshua Xu Alex RooseMatt Harris reposted thisToday, we're announcing a $1.7B equity investment in Atoms, led by Andreessen Horowitz. As part of this round, our operating businesses have merged into one Atoms equity structure. At Atoms, we’re on a mission to build physical automation to transform industry and move the world. If you look around, everything is grown or mined, manufactured and moved. That is industry - the large-scale, organized production of the things civilization runs on. Mining, construction, heavy transport, food production. Trillion-dollar sectors that have gone barely a generation without a genuine technological transformation. That is about to change. The impetus is Industrial AI - systems of software, sensors, robotics, and AI that automate the operations of entire industrial sectors. Industrial AI is what will power the next industrial revolution. Atoms is the OEM for atoms-based computers across the industries that move the physical world: - Atoms Food - infrastructure for better food. - Atoms Mining - more productive mines to power earth’s industries. - Atoms Transport - wheelbase for robots. For eight years, we've been building quietly. This round is fuel for the next phase - more machines, more deployments, more of the hardest problems in the physical world attacked at once. This is going to take builders with vision, grit, systems thinking, resilience, and a fighting spirit. Nature is going to throw everything it has at the builders in this new industrial age and it’s going to take humanity’s strongest to stay the course and get these complex systems and industries over the finish line. Thank you to Andreessen Horowitz and our capital partners for backing the progress machines we build to power this next industrial revolution. If you’re looking for a challenge, come join the team. Matt Harris reposted thisMatt Harris reposted thisToday, we’re announcing Andera's $37M series A led by Lightspeed with participation from Bain Capital Ventures (BCV), A*, and Pear VC to build the future of AI auditing. At Andera, we’re building agents to automate the thousands of hours of manual work that our Fortune 10 clients do by hand every day. Our clients have deployed us across SOX, cybersecurity, operational audits and more. Auditors should be empowered to do more with less. As the world has gotten more digitized, auditor’s technology has not kept up. Now, they are left in spots where millions of new transactions could have happened at a company but they only have the time to check a sampling of them by hand. We believe the best product in this space should be built by auditors, for auditors. As such, half of our team are some of the most talented engineers in the Bay, and the other half are the most sharp and gifted auditors we have met. Together, we have solved novel problems in out of distribution data reasoning and have served our fortune 10 clients by turning weeks worth of work into minutes. To our investors, thank you for your unrelenting belief as we continue to transform this industry. To everyone at Andera, thank you for the blood sweat and tears each and every one of you has put into the journey so far while being the most enjoyable group of people I have worked with. And to our customers, thank you for choosing us in a sea of other providers. We’re honored to support you.

Matt Harris reposted thisMatt Harris reposted thisToday, we’re announcing that TerraFirma has raised $115 million in funding, including a $100M Series A led by Kleiner Perkins. TerraFirma is the world’s leading robotic construction company, combining robotics, software, and tech-enabled operations to make constructing critical infrastructure ten times faster, cheaper, and safer. Construction is struggling. There is a massive labor shortage. Projects routinely go over budget and fall behind schedule, while demand continues to outpace supply. Construction is also one of the few major industries in America in which productivity has declined since 1960. How do we fix it? How do we give America the ability to build again? TerraFirma is our answer. We combine the fast-paced, innovative culture of companies like SpaceX, The Boring Company, and Tesla with the tried-and-true expertise of decades-old, world-leading general contractors and subcontractors. We are simultaneously innovating on both the technology and the operating model needed to transform construction. Over the past 12 months, we have grown the company more than 10x. We are performing projects across the world, and by the end of October 2026, we are on track to operate 3 of the top 3 largest robotic construction fleets in the world, each on a different continent, bringing unprecedented speed, scale, and efficiency to some of the world’s most complex critical infrastructure projects. We are also bringing a new generation of workers into construction: young, hardworking Americans from all walks of life who can control heavy machinery through an easy-to-use, video game-style interface. We are giving them the opportunity to operate robots, build critical infrastructure, and help shape America’s future. This is not disruption for disruption’s sake. It is a revival of one of America’s greatest industrial muscles. America has the technology, the talent, and an urgent need for this mission to succeed. TerraFirma is the spark igniting this transformation. This funding will allow us to step on the gas, expand our manufacturing, software, operations, and construction deployments, and perform increasingly large commercial and government projects around the world. Now that we have the capital, what do we need? We need YOU. We need the best people from the engineering world and the best people from the construction world to come together and build something transformational. Something that will fundamentally change how humanity builds on Earth and, eventually, Mars. If you want to do the hardest and most meaningful work of your life with a team determined to move mountains, join us. Huge thanks to Kleiner Perkins, Bain Capital Ventures (BCV), Glade Brook Capital Partners LLC, BANNER VC, Saga Ventures, Trust Ventures, Definition, PEAK6, Magnetar, Ravelin, and all of our amazing angel investors who have helped and supported us throughout this journey.

Matt Harris reposted thisMatt Harris reposted this11,000 people turn 65 every day in the US. 80% of them want to age at home. The infrastructure to support that hasn't kept up and Hera is built to change that. For the founder Jenny Lee, it’s personal. Jenny watched her aunt carry the full weight of her grandmother’s 20-year battle with dementia. The family never talked about the cost that came with it. That experience is the reason Hera exists. Hera is building a new category of care worker: dedicated senior care experts, covered by Medicare and powered by an AI platform that learns from every family interaction. The result: care that scales without losing the human element that makes it work. Watch the full Outlier Briefing with Jenny and BCV's Alysaa Co. https://lnkd.in/eWfukHem

Tomo believes the problem was never you, it was the apps. Justin Quan and Raymond C. built this personal AI champion where people already spend most of their time: iMessage. Text Tomo a bank statement, screen time report, or a photo of what you had for lunch. It remembers what you’re working toward, checks in and holds you accountable without changing your day-to-day behavior. In just over 3 months, Tomo has grown to >10k paying subscribers on word of mouth alone with engagement that rivals the most-used apps. Beyond proud to lead their $5M Seed. Matt Harris reposted thisMatt Harris reposted thisLaw is AI's next trillion dollar frontier. Today's models can remember legal facts, but they lack judgment. They'll read a statute or summarize a case, but can't tell you whether a clause is too aggressive or a risk is worth taking. The senior partner's taste, style, and ability to blend facts with circumstances is exactly what you pay them for. And why it's so hard to measure and teach. So today, we're launching Crosby Intelligence, to push the frontier of legal AI forward. We’re announcing 3 things: 1. RedlineBench with micro1: a benchmark for how frontier models handle complex, real world contract negotiations* 2. The Crosby Intelligence Research Fellowship: funding two Fellows pursuing frontier research with support from OpenAI - $25K & $12.5K Codex credits each 3. Hosting the most interesting conversations in applied AI at our SoHo office, featuring Parag Agrawal, Rahul Sengottuvelu, Peter Henderson, Neel Guha, Peyton Walters and more So how close are frontier models to being able to do real commercial legal work? We benchmarked frontier models on realistic contract negotiations (built externally with zero client data). Rather than individual edits, we focused on the full sequence of judgment calls a lawyer makes across a deal. No model is close, and there are no standout winners yet. The most interesting result from the benchmark is that every model is weakest on the opening move. You can read the full benchmark at the link in the comments.

Matt Harris liked thisMatt Harris liked thisMost people know that I am a huge fan of The Onion, and I always look forward to its monthly print edition. The August/September issue exceeded even my high expectations. All three front-page headlines are entertaining, absurd, and just close enough to reality to make you pause. Each is a must-read, and the explanatory lines beneath them are absolutely brilliant. - “Bain Capital Acquires Tibetan Buddhism for $35 Million.” “Bain corporate officers said that they believe Tibetan Buddhism has the fundamentals to be a leader in the dharmic space, but claimed the religion has languished for the last thousand years under complacent management and suboptimal capital allocation.” - “FBI to Stop Tracking Serial Killers—Administration Says It’s Not the Government’s Job to Arrest Every Sociopath Out There.” “Claiming that such monitoring efforts have been a waste of government resources, FBI officials announced Friday that the agency would discontinue its longstanding practice of tracking serial killers.” - “Oklahoma Bans Marrying for Love.” “Marriage should be a holy union between a man and a woman who want to aggressively procreate, not a couple who share a profound romantic bond,” Gov. Kevin Stitt said." The line between absurdity and reality feels thinner today than it has in a long time. Let’s hope we can still tell the difference between headlines in The New York Times and The Onion.

Matt Harris liked thisMatt Harris liked thisMassive shout out to Justworks for the best call center experience I've ever had. Resolved my request for benefits verification within 2.5 minutes—no joke. 🏆 Before I made the call I geared myself up for one of those miserable sit on hold, get passed to 3 different people who ask the same verification questions, and waste 30+ minutes of my work day- type expriences. But, PSYCH—As soon as I explained the purpose of my call, the service rep (Riley, kudos! 👏 ) sent me a quick ID verification, already knew who my former employer was, and offered to send me the information I was requesting via email instead of making me wait on hold. 😲 For someone who works in the business of personalization, this was the dream CX experience that instilled confidence, fast. Justworks, what's your secret??

Matt Harris liked thisMatt Harris liked thisHuge congrats to Chris He, Oleksandr Shevenionov, Will Hoppin, and Basil Alfaro on launching Osmo Studio today! We at Bain Capital Ventures (BCV) are proud to be leading their $5M seed round, with Basis Set, Collaborative Fund, MVP Ventures, Scott Belsky, Sarah Smith Fund, Kevin Patrick Mahaffey, Melisa Seah and others. Osmo started as a software and film studio. When Christina Melas-Kyriazi and I first met the team, we were struck by the quality of their projects and their passion for filmmaking. They were products builders who had also spent real time on set, and knew firsthand that legacy tools simply weren't built for the new wave of creators who want to tell their stories through video. Over the last 7 months, the team has made over 50 films and commercials for companies like Cognition, Parallel Web Systems, and Physical Intelligence -- using the tool they are launching today. Today, Osmo is an end-to-end editable video platform. Import a Figma file, paste in frontend code, or drop in a reference video. It generates animation as editable code, with full control over the timeline, layers, vectors, motion, and brand rules. Teams at Webflow, Resend, Rho, and Gumloop are already shipping with it. Try it for yourself at osmo.inc! (And, of course, this video was directed by Will Hoppin and made by the Osmo team, in Osmo Studio.)

Matt Harris liked thisMatt Harris liked thisWe at Bain Capital Ventures (BCV) with Amanda Huang are delighted to be leading the $5m seed of Osmo Studio. Chris He, Will Hoppin, Oleksandr Shevenionov, and Basil Alfaro have a rare combination: creative geniuses and technologists. They tell stories that break through. You've seen the videos they've made on your feeds for Cog, PI and Parallel Web Systems. I was struck by their level of intensity and passion for filmmaking. It shows in the product. In an era where AI is accelerating timelines, it's never been more important to tell your story. These stories demand new tools: AI that puts creatives in control and is both powerful and easy to use. They built Osmo Studios for themselves: every video they make directly improves the software. Users get pro-grade Pixar quality outputs while working out of a friendly interface. They are the perfect team to unlock the $40bn creative software market with AI. If you make videos, check it out in the link below. Thank you to Fast Company for covering the launch!

What’s old is new. Funny to watch VCs flood back to out-of-favor business models—hardware-enabled software, marketplaces, consumer tech—which are now viewed as more defensible because AI can't easily replicate physical infrastructure, network effects, or brand.
