Michael Funkhouser posted thisA clinic with 32 reviews and a clunky, slow website just started beating regional health systems in AI search. Here's the strange part. We didn't touch a line of code. We didn't spend a dollar on ads. All we did was rewrite the words. The bio, the condition pages, the FAQs, all rewritten to say, in plain language, exactly which patients this physician was best suited to help. Not credentials. Context. Two weeks later, they went from showing up in ~27% of the AI search phrases we tested to the top three for 82% of them. Here's what most practices miss: AI doesn't infer your expertise. It can't see your years in practice or your wall of degrees and conclude you're the best. It recommends the practice whose website gives it a reason to. Credentials are table stakes. Every doctor has them. The practices winning AI search are the ones willing to say, clearly, who they're for. I wrote the full breakdown for Medical Economics (link in comments).

Michael Funkhouser posted thisThe most annoying thing about the AI boom? Real customer support has basically disappeared. First, it was overseas call centers. Not ideal, but at least you could talk to a human. Then it was outsourcing agencies, where the “support rep” was juggling multiple companies and usually knew less about the issue than you did. Now the humans are gone completely, and you’re expected to sort out a billing problem with a chatbot. The thing is, the chatbot can’t actually solve anything; it’s just there to keep you busy until you get so frustrated that you give up. And it’s not just support. If I have a question about your product, I don’t want to talk to a computer. I'm looking for someone who understands the product, can answer my questions, and help me determine if it meets my needs. Real people sell. Bots stall. I get why companies do it. Cutting costs looks good on paper. But here’s the thing: Customer support and sales aren’t just overhead. They’re the front line of your brand. When you replace people with scripts and bots, you don’t save trust- you lose it. The companies that win with AI will be the ones that use technology to empower real humans to do better work, not erase them. Your chatbots suck.

Michael Funkhouser shared thisLast week, I had a check-in call with a plastic surgeon client who’s absolutely crushing it. When we started working together just a few months ago, he was seeing around 10 patients a month. Now? He’s consistently seeing 40 and is booked out 4–5 months in advance. His life has completely changed in such a short time. And while that kind of growth is exciting, it also comes with its own set of challenges. This video is a quick (and fun) peek into what it looks like when your life changes so quickly.

Michael Funkhouser shared thisA plastic surgeon in Southern California tripled his revenue - not by pushing discounts or procedures, but by leading with his story. We repositioned him as a sculptor and visual artist, not just a facelift surgeon. The result? More of the right patients, higher-value procedures, and a brand people couldn’t ignore. Because when you connect with patients on a human level, you don’t just get leads - you build trust. And trust grows practices.

Michael Funkhouser posted thisShouldn't have to say this but... Demanding that every possible resource be allocated to the investigation and punishment of whoever flew to an island and took part in the abuse of children is not a political issue. It doesn't matter if you're on the right, left, or in the middle. Those who participated, those who knew, and those who were silent need to be held accountable with complete transparency. Anything else is just noise and a distraction. Every. Possible. Resource. Thanks.

Michael Funkhouser posted thisHonestly, I think every business owner should take their business to therapy. Sit down on the couch and ask: 🛋️ "So… what do you really do?" 🧠 "And how does that make you feel?" 💬 "How do you think that makes other people feel?" 📣 "And how can you communicate that more clearly?" I swear 90% of marketing problems would solve themselves if founders got radically honest about who they are, what they offer, and why it matters. We spend so much time optimizing funnels, ads, and spending money, and not nearly enough time figuring out how to communicate what our business does.

Michael Funkhouser posted thisWhen I start working with a new medical provider, I always ask: “What sets you apart from your competitors?” Nine times out of ten, I hear one of three things: 1. My education and training 2. Our prices 3. Our location But the reality is, everyone’s smart, you’re not the only one in your city, and price wars are a race to the bottom. (This is true for most businesses). So I push harder. “What actually makes you special?” Sometimes it takes five minutes. Sometimes it takes an hour. But we always uncover something real. Like: - A plastic surgeon who’s also a painter and travels the world teaching how to blend art with safe surgical outcomes for amazing results. - One who spends hours getting to know patients before and after surgery to make sure they feel seen, supported, and cared for. - A bariatric surgeon who was once obese himself, and now helps patients transform not just their bodies, but understands a mental transformation needs to happen too. Each of these doctors started without a brand. Now they’re known for their story, their values, and the kind of care only they can offer. And the difference in how many patients they see (and how much they earn) is massive. Everyone has a story. If you’re not telling yours, you’re just another provider on a list. Stand out. Be a human with a story. That’s how you grow.

Best Saturday I've had in years tbh.

It's been a wonderful 3 years supporting scientists, running a community of thoughtful & talented people, and getting to know each person on an individual level. I'm in a position now in which I can step away from work for a while and focus instead on the people that matter to me the most - my family. Many of you may be wondering, what is next for me? How will I be spending my time? Great question. Answers below in order of priority: 𝗕𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘆-𝗮𝘁-𝗵𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗱𝗮𝗱 My wife and kids are my world, and we’re in a position in which I can serve them in the way I want. We have 8 years left with the kids before they graduate high school, so I’m going to make the most of the time :) 𝗪𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝗺𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗶𝗿 I’ve had a lot of life experiences, both good and bad. It’s time for me to write about that. My goal is this: If even one person reads the book and feels less alone in this world, then the book has achieved its purpose. 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗽𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿𝘆/𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘆𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 Working with my hands is something that means a lot to me. I like to build, fix and craft things that are better than what can be bought. We have plenty of projects around the house (and the local community) that should keep me busy over the next couple of years. ---------- Thanks again to all of those who trusted me, followed my advice, and shared their own personal stories with me. Working in the career coaching space has been one of the more rewarding experiences of my life. ~Ali

Michael Funkhouser reacted on thisMichael Funkhouser reacted on this30 Under 30 2026 | Daniela Córdoba Díaz https://lnkd.in/e8aH5z7m I’m incredibly honored to share that I’ve been recognized as part of Forbes 30 Under 30 Colombia. Building Colombian Visa Services has been one of the most challenging and rewarding experiences of my career. What started as an idea to make Colombia’s immigration process more accessible, transparent, and professional for foreigners has grown into a company serving people from around the world who have chosen Colombia to live, invest, work, retire, and build a new chapter of their lives. But this recognition is about much more than me. Behind Colombian Visa Services is an incredible team of professionals who believe in what we’re building and work every day to provide our clients with the level of service they deserve. I’m incredibly grateful to each of them, to our clients who have trusted us with some of the most important decisions of their lives, and to everyone who has supported us along the way. I also want to thank my previous employers, colleagues, and every person who gave me an opportunity to learn from them throughout my career. I’ve been fortunate to work alongside people I deeply admire, and so much of the knowledge, perspective, and ambition I have today came from observing them, learning from them, and being trusted with opportunities that allowed me to grow. Being recognized by Forbes at this stage of my career is an incredible milestone, but more than anything, it motivates me to keep learning, growing, and building. There is still so much ahead for Colombian Visa Services, and I’m incredibly excited about what comes next. Thank you, Forbes - Forbes Colombia, for this recognition, and thank you to every person who has been part of the journey that brought me here. ❤️🇨🇴

Michael Funkhouser liked thisMichael Funkhouser liked thisIn case you haven't noticed, most agency's deliverables just went to near-zero marginal cost. Fees haven't decreased and there is a reason why. A deck that took a team a week now takes an agent and a competent marketer a couple hours . Monthly reports, trafficking sheets, dashboards: same story. The work agencies sold by the hour is now much faster to make. Here's the part people miss. When execution required human armies (copywriters, art directors, producers, coordinators), that's what was a needed to simply get the job done. You can't productize execution when shipping one campaign took 15 people, 3 months and tons and tons of rounds of feedback. Execution is abundant now. What's scarce is knowing which twenty minutes of work is the right twenty minutes. Also, what's not being considered is the massive load of effort and expertise needed to build the systems, workflows, context etc to create the deliverables, handle the execution etc. So the thing you were paying an agency for was never the deck. It was the judgment behind it and the outcomes that deck leads to. It's no different today.

LinkedIn Ads Tip 💡 If you want better control over your ad spend, try manual bidding. It allows you to manage costs more precisely and can help reduce CPC and CPL by up to ~30% when optimized well especially for niche B2B audiences. Start with LinkedIn’s suggested bid, monitor performance closely, then adjust based on data, not guesswork. Smart bidding beats bigger budgets.

Your client doesn’t have a traffic problem on their eStore. They have a checkout problem. Agencies keep scaling ads. CPM goes up. CAC goes up. But no one checks: - Card validation - Guest checkout - Shipping clarity - Error messaging You don’t fix a leaking bucket by pouring more water into it. Before increasing ad spend, audit friction. How many of your clients have had a checkout UX audit in the last 6 months? #qeretail #shopifypartner #webdesign #onlinestore #uxtips #smallbusinesstips
