Arthur Iinuma liked thisArthur Iinuma liked thisI came out of the womb a Clemson Tiger. And I’m not even exaggerating. My grandfather went to Clemson. My uncle went to Clemson. I grew up in Clemson gear before I could form an opinion about anything. There was never a question about where I was going to school. But then the rejection letter came. I still remember reading it. It felt so wrong. Factually wrong. Like something had made an error that I needed to go fix. Most people in that situation take the bridge program. Because it’s the most reasonable path. But I didn’t want that. I wanted what I was supposed to have. So I did something that probably seemed excessive to everyone around me. I spent three months fighting for it. Letters of recommendation from the VP of my high school. From a major donor to the university. From my principal. Three months of follow-ups, conversations, and not accepting the first answer I was given. Eventually, they let me in. And I didn't do it because I was stubborn. I did it because somewhere in me I already understood something that took years to fully articulate: 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘴𝘰𝘭𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘱𝘢𝘵𝘩 𝘪𝘴 𝘰𝘯𝘭𝘺 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘴𝘰𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘪𝘧 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘢𝘤𝘤𝘦𝘱𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘰𝘳𝘪𝘨𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘭 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘸𝘢𝘴𝘯'𝘵 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘴. But I didn't accept that. And that instinct, of refusing to reframe a setback as a redirect, showed up everywhere after. In crypto, I watched an 8-figure outcome disappear overnight. In finance, when the environment wasn't working for me. In building HireSphere AI from scratch. Every time, the same question underneath it all: Is this actually over, or does it just feel that way right now? Most of the time, it's the second one. And the people who find out are the ones who don't take the consolation path before they've actually exhausted the real one. On Christmas Eve, Groq announced that it entered into a licensing agreement with Nvidia for a reported $20 billion. While complete transaction details have not been publicly disclosed, the Groq transaction marks the largest investment outcome in our firm’s history and a home run result for our LPs. It originated as an early high conviction investment beginning with Groq’s D1 in 2024 followed by a much larger participation in the D3. The successful exit serves as a clear validation of our thesis around emerging forms of compute, particularly inference which we believed would become a critical pillar of the AI cycle. As we look ahead, we remain focused on AI infrastructure while becoming increasingly interested in the next wave of opportunity around AI agents. We are encouraged by the reopening of the IPO markets and the expanding path to liquidity. The proposal would expand the authority of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) to oversee spot markets for digital commodities, introduce registration and disclosure standards for trading platforms and intermediaries, bolster consumer protections, and clarify how assets like Bitcoin, Ether, and tokenized financial instruments fit into a regulated framework. The draft builds on earlier moves such as the House-passed CLARITY Act and comes amid a broader push for clearer, technology-neutral oversight as U.S. crypto policy evolves with growing institutional participation and global regulatory momentum.

You can't reindustrialise with casino money. Dan G.'s piece "No Crying in the Casino" on the Odin blog is the sharpest diagnosis of venture capital's structural crisis I've read this year. He traces financialisation from 16th century bullionism through Carlota Perez's technological revolutions to the present casino culture. He's right about all of it. But the prescription has a gap. Gray calls for reindustrialisation, and the technologists building uranium enrichment, marine robotics, and drug discovery labs are exactly the right companies. The problem is that the capital funding them is still structured for extraction. The numbers don't lie. Total venture funding collapsed 69% from Q4 2021 to Q1 2025. Across every AngelList vintage from 2017-2024, the median fund returned less than $0.38 on the dollar. GP-led continuation vehicles exploded from $6B to $67B as fund managers found ways to sell assets to themselves rather than return capital. My partner James Thomason calls this the option premium problem. Installation-period speculation serves a real function: each startup is an option on a different configuration of the technology. The dot-com bubble built the infrastructure Amazon ran on. But venture capital's current architecture doesn't capture the option premium. It consumes it through fees and financial engineering. Reindustrialisation needs instruments designed for production, not speculation. Revenue-linked capital that pays investors from real performance. Permanent structures that don't expire before the technology matures. Governance that aligns stakeholders instead of creating zero-sum fights over liquidation proceeds. You can't build the deployment period with installation-period tools. The reindustrialists need reindustrialised capital. Full Venture Capital 2.0 edition link is in comments!

Tokenized equities are approaching the $1 billion mark, underscoring how real-world asset (RWA) tokenization is moving beyond pilots and into a fast-developing segment of crypto market infrastructure. A new report from Sentora and DL Research, linked below found that tokenized stocks reached roughly $963 million in market value as of January 2026, representing a year-on-year increase of nearly 2,878% from just $32 million a year earlier. Animoca Brands - 2025 Listing Report: Exchange listing of Altcoin and RWAs, Alpha Programs, and New iterations of IDO 🔹 Contraction in Altcoin Listings: There were 21% fewer unique tokens listed on centralized exchange spot markets across 9 exchanges in 2025 (dropping from 1,645 to 1,302), particularly in the small FDV segment (under $30M). This decline is consistent with the overall observation of a slowdown in the altcoin space throughout the year. 🔹 Top Exchanges Expanding Scope: Major exchanges are expanding their coverage to mid-size tokens and directly listing more small FDV assets. This aggressive expansion by high-volume platforms (like Binance, which saw a 70% increase in listings) has been the main force holding the overall listing event drop to just 6% year-over-year, despite the broader market contraction. 🔹 Rise of Tokenized RWAs: Since the second half of 2025, several exchanges have diversified beyond altcoins to list tokenized RWAs, including stocks and commodities. Gate leads in tokenized stock quantity and volume ($4.9B in Q4), while Binance dominates tokenized gold trading ($6.2B in Q4). However, these volumes remain secondary to crypto-native assets; for instance, Gate's $4.9B stock volume is still significantly less than its $12B volume for newly listed crypto tokens, suggesting crypto-native assets remain the core trading force. 🔹 Evolution of CEX-DEX Linkage: The CEX-DEX trading linkage, initiated by the Binance Alpha program, has evolved from a simple wallet campaign into an industry-wide practice (adopted by 8 out of 10 major exchanges). This model now allows users to trade on-chain assets directly through their exchange accounts, blurring the lines between exchange custody and self-custody. 🔹 Binance Alpha's Impact and Decay: The Alpha Program, particularly with the "campaign models" in version 2.0, drove tremendous growth in wallet usage (daily volumes peaking over $1B) and helped select mid-size tokens for Binance’s spot and perp markets. However, token prices struggled to hold post-launch; listing gains were consistently erased within the first month as attention drifted and incentives waned, leading to a "pump-and-fade" dynamic. 🔹 Revival of IDOs: A new wave of IDOs launch designs have emerged as a counter-force to exchange dominance. These platforms launched nearly 200 projects in 2025, introducing features like "Proof of Liquidity" and "Refund Shields" to favor active contributors and use market-based criteria for token unlocks, aiming to create healthier post-launch dynamics between holders and teams.
