Rather ironically, I have found that "unified" (monolithic) ERP systems quite often sow the seeds of their own destruction through intentionally fragmented implementation -- either assuming or requiring that those who know the whole business best divide into functional teams working independently from each other. It needs to be remembered that the whole is more than the sum of its parts, and that the interactions between modules (both human and digital) are just as important as the effective implementation of the modules themselves. Even the most well-integrated complex systems can be essentially "dis-integrated" by self-imposed walls of isolation during critical phases of implementation, configuration, and training. Modular ERP systems (whether composed or "unified" under a single brand) succeed or fail on the strength of the strands that connect their modules -- in design, in implementation, and especially in the dynamics of execution.

Big Picture Understanding: When AI Can’t Connect the Dots for You At Celemi, we recently implemented a new ERP system—a daunting but necessary step. While most things have gone smoothly, there are still areas we haven’t fully figured out. One of those areas is our leads process—how leads flow in from our website into the system. Sounds simple, right? Turns out, it’s far more complex than expected, especially with a system that offers a vast range of configuration options. I tried the usual routes—supplier documentation, e-learning modules—but they didn’t give me the clarity I needed. So, I turned to AI. I asked ChatGPT for step-by-step instructions, and it worked… up to a point. Several times, I hit a wall. That’s when I took a different approach—I simply shared a screenshot, and AI helped me move forward. Eventually, I got the functions to work. But here’s the catch: I still don’t fully understand how all the configurations I set up actually connect in the big picture. AI was great at solving immediate problems, but it couldn’t provide the overarching understanding of how everything fits together.
