Watching the product come to life was the best part. I noticed this happening frequently in my own conversations. A simple change made a big difference: Tell the AI: “Use deliberate mode. Think through the approach before answering.” If you are using coding agent like Claude code or Codex, you can explicitly set it to planning mode. Since I started doing that, I get better first-pass answers, fewer mid-response corrections, and more direct responses. We* call this generation the Full-Stack Consumer Founder. Historically, Israelis have been great at growth, analytics, performance marketing, and following the numbers. What has changed is that we're no longer weak at brand, taste, and consumer intuition. Today's founders increasingly do both.Add a maturing consumer ecosystem on top of that and you get a pretty dangerous founder. That's what we* mean by the Full-Stack Consumer Founder. Consumer rarely entered the conversation. Oren Charnoff and Daniel Cohen think most investors are missing the bigger story. On today's episode, I sat down with the co-founders of Sticker Ventures, a fund built entirely around backing the next generation of Israeli consumer startups. Their thesis is simple. Some of the best consumer companies of the last decade already came out of Israel: Fiverr, Wix, Waze, ODDITY. The track record is there. Most people just never connected it to a category. What makes Israeli founders different in consumer? They don't build on intuition. They start with the numbers. • Customer acquisition. • Unit economics. • ROAS. • Contribution margin. • Feedback loops. That mindset produces founders building profitable consumer businesses from day one, not chasing growth at all costs and hoping the economics catch up later. But this conversation went well beyond Israel. It's really about how the best consumer founders think. How they validate markets with minimal capital? Why distribution often beats product? How to build conviction in a pre-revenue company. And why AI may create an entirely new generation of consumer winners rather than wiping the category out. Gil Eyal liked thisGil Eyal liked thisMost founders hire their first marketer at exactly the wrong moment, and then fire them for it. Not too early. On the wrong clock. Marketing runs on two clocks, and I've never seen a founder hire for both. There's the slow half: brand, owned assets, an audience that belongs to you, distribution channels you actually control. That half takes a year or two, it compounds, and it can't be bought later at any speed. Then there's the fast half. Campaigns, spend, pipeline, the number in the board deck. Six weeks to stand up, from cold. Founders hire for the fast half. They hire at the one moment when only the slow half is available to them. Because the fast half is worthless before the product is good enough. You can pour money into demand for something people try once and leave, and the only thing you'll learn is how expensive that is. So why does the hire keep happening on the fast clock? Because the alternative is saying out loud that the product isn't ready. And hiring a marketer makes that question smaller. "Is this good enough" turns into "why aren't the leads coming in." One of those wakes you at 3am. The other one has an owner. That's the trade nobody writes in the job description. You hire someone to hold a question you can't hold yourself. And it wastes the most valuable thing you just bought. A marketer who has done this four times has seen what a product looks like right before it works, and right after. Whether people come back without being asked. Whether they describe it to each other the same way. Whether the objections are getting smaller or just changing shape. None of that is in the dashboard. It's the one thing a founder doesn't have and can't get from a tool. Most founders buy it and then spend it on lead gen. The 2026 version is sharper, because the fast half got cheap. I ran marketing with one full time marketer and a stack that cost less than $2,000 a month, and I can stand up a campaign machine in a week. Nobody needs to hire early to buy hands any more. Which leaves one good reason to hire a marketer before the product is ready, and it's the reason that never makes it into the req: someone whose actual job is to tell you the truth about whether it's ready, and to start the slow half while you fix it. Fair caveat, because I can hear it coming: "good enough" isn't a date on a roadmap, and most products only get good by being in front of people. True. That's an argument for starting the slow half early. It isn't an argument for buying paid demand at seed. Same question either way. The difference is whether you're handing it over to be answered, or handing it over to be blamed. Marketers: when did you first know the product wasn't ready? And what did you do with that, honestly?

Gil Eyal reacted on thisGil Eyal reacted on thisA little personal news that I am very happy to share: I was recently named the Neuberger Berman/Zicklin Family Chair and Professor of Law at the Zicklin School of Business, Baruch College, The City University of New York. This one feels particularly meaningful. Larry Zicklin’s career has spanned the worlds of finance and higher education in a way that is hard to match. After leading Neuberger Berman, he devoted an extraordinary part of his career to teaching, including at Baruch, NYU Stern, and Wharton, and to supporting business education and the study of ethics and corporate integrity. His and Carol Zicklin’s transformative support of Baruch helped build the school that now bears their name. Higher education talks a great deal about access, opportunity, and social mobility. Far fewer institutions can point to outcomes that show they are actually delivering them. Baruch can. It has been ranked #1 in the nation for social mobility, and for three consecutive years, #1 in the nation for value by The Wall Street Journal. Those rankings capture something I have come to appreciate deeply about Baruch: academic ambition and #access do not have to be competing goals. For someone whose own work sits at the intersection of law, finance, technology, and business, it is a special privilege to hold a chair bearing the names of both Neuberger Berman and the Zicklin family. Gil Eyal liked thisGil Eyal liked thisI buy more software now than I did when I had a large team. Which is the opposite of what I expected. This is my second run as a solo CMO. I build a lot of the stack in Claude Code, and building got easy enough to be a trap. Everything I build, I keep alive. That's agent debt. It stays invisible for about six weeks, and then something has drifted and nobody tells you. So I pay vendors to carry that debt for me. Deliverability infrastructure that adapts the week Gmail changes its rules. A security team paid to think about this full time, which I am not. The AI Act's disclosure rules kicked in on August 2nd. I have no interest in being the guy who hand-rolled his own asset labeling system. A product I buy improves while I'm not looking. A thing I build improves when I touch it. With nobody to cover for me, that gap widens fast. The buy criteria changed too, and this part I didn't see coming. I used to evaluate a tool by sitting in it for twenty minutes. Now I check whether an agent can drive it. Whether it fails in a way software can retry. Whether I can test against it without creating four duplicate contacts. Most of them can't. SaaStr Ai graded 150+ B2B APIs on agent readiness this year and marketing automation averaged 6.1 out of 10, last of every category measured. Sales intelligence got 7.0. It's one operator's rubric and the only one that exists, and it matches what I keep finding. So I end up building the thin layer that makes the things I bought drivable by something other than me. Fair caveat: this is a snapshot. The maintenance cost is the thing falling fastest, and if it keeps falling the whole argument moves. Ask me again in four quarters. For now, a small number of things I own completely, sitting on a large pile of things I rent and mostly don't understand.
