Teneika Askew shared thisPeople ask me all the time: “How did you learn so much about cloud and AI?” The answer is probably less exciting than people expect. 😂 I use it. Every. Single. Day. Sometimes I'm walking my dog asking AI to re-teach me a technical concept I haven't thought about in years. Sometimes I'm running a command that updates one of the projects I'm building to better understand stock market movements. I've built agents to help me figure out different ways to teach technical concepts. Agent Z brings me news and insights. I've even built one because my family is constantly sending TikToks 😂. Instead of everybody asking “what were the ingredients?” or “we should do this!” — why not have an agent turn that into something useful? Somewhere along the way I realized: You're not just learning AI anymore. You're learning by BUILDING with AI. You build something. It works. Then it doesn't. 🤷🏽♀️ And THAT'S when the real learning starts. That's also why this AWS re:Invent session caught my attention: Build and Operate Production Agents with OpenAI and Amazon Bedrock I've gotten pretty comfortable with the “build” part. I'm increasingly interested in the operate part. What happens when an agent isn't just something I built for myself? 🔐 How do I control what it can access? 🛠️ How should tools be exposed? 📊 How do I observe what it's doing? 🏗️ What does the architecture look like at scale? 🌐 What happens inside restricted enterprise environments? Those are much more interesting questions to me now. I don't need another session explaining what an agent is. Show me what happens when the prototype goes to production. There are 300+ 400-level sessions and 40+ 500-level sessions for people who want to go DEEP. That's probably the biggest value of re:Invent to me. Teneika Askew shared thisIt's been a year since starting a new role while continuing to teach 200+ adults and 40+ teenagers about AI, Prompt Engineering and Data Science. While I teach and educate, I have also been building with AI - tools and apps to help me learn about different domains like Cyber and the Stock Market, showcasing how quickly a personal app can be used to keep up with a newborns sleep and feeding schedule using G Suite and Claude, and overall fun apps like teaching a family member and friend to play Spades in our own lingo and jokes because we don't have time to teach, only play 😂 Overall, I get asked a lot about how to learn AI and I always recommend, use it now to figure out how to solve one thing, big or small problem, you'll learn in how you prompt, in how you use it to build and how you apply it to day to day situations. I used Gemini Live to help me fix my toilet and replace a fuse in my car! Here are the resources I share when I'm asked how to get started. It sets a new standard for useful intelligence, brings significant cost savings, and earned the highest scores for alignment on our most comprehensive test. A number of our enterprise customers have already found it to be a big step up in capabilities across use cases, including research, agentic coding, and financial analysis. It is diligent, thorough, and communicates more clearly. Opus 5.5 is also much more efficient. It uses less compute to serve than Opus 5, and we reflected that in our pricing. Along with improved token efficiency, we expect Opus 5.5 to cost about 40% less than Opus 5 for typical workloads. We are also increasing five-hour usage limits on Pro, Max, and Team plans. Opus 5.5 is the result of our continued focus on delivering the best value for enterprises in real world use cases, with the safety and reliability our users need to deploy AI models across their organizations. Now everyone is starting to share their non-AI AI tools, and people are starting to realize that classic AI was actually useful again. For instance, Needle 3 just came out last week and it's the first I've heard of it. This thing is tiny, built to run on device and the github is open source. I'm interested to play with this. Could be very useful on many projects and I don't have to hit an API.

So far, I’ve completed the core decision engine, a working demo, MCP integration, 14 structured test cases, and automated evaluation/regression testing. The next step is more important: integrating it with real AI agents and running Agent-only vs. Agent + Governance Layer experiments to measure whether the system actually changes agent behavior. At the same time, I’ve been following the growing investment in AI Safety, Agent Oversight, AI Control, and Evaluation. OpenAI’s new Safety Fellowship just began this month, supporting areas including safety evaluation and agentic oversight: OpenAI Safety Fellowship Anthropic’s Fellows Program supports research including scalable oversight, AI control, adversarial robustness, and AI security: Anthropic Fellows Program I missed the application windows for these cohorts, but I’m preparing for the next round of fellowships, grants, hackathons, and research collaborations. I’d love to meet potential collaborators in AI/ML, Agent Engineering, Python, AI Safety/Evals, Security/Red Teaming, HCI, and research, as well as people strong in product, marketing, outreach, and partnerships. The goal isn’t simply to apply for funding. I want us to build lasting assets together: working products, GitHub contributions, evals/benchmarks, research outputs, demos, technical experience, and industry relationships. The enterprise data team was supposed to own the pipeline. I ended up building it, and owning it. That shouldn't be a win, but it was. The project was scoped, planned, and handed to the team assigned to carry it. With competing priorities, unclear ownership, and a timeline that kept moving, it inevitably stalled. The business need wasn't going anywhere, so I built it myself. Not ideal, but I had the autonomy to act and I'm not taking that for granted. Here's what that actually means at the org level: a dedicated, well-resourced team was assigned this work. A solo analyst built it in less time than the whole of the initial meeting process took and now holds the keys. That's not a story about one stubborn analyst. That's a story about what happens when organizational complexity becomes the bottleneck. The data was never the hard part. It rarely is. How often does your team end up building around a process that was supposed to help them and how long before anyone names it as the actual problem?
