From the course: Green Jobs for Sustainable Careers

Green credentials

- [Instructor] Another frequent question I hear from budding professionals or folks looking for a mid-career transition to a greener career is what kind of credentials and certifications are the best ones to pursue? Well, it depends. To help them find the right answer, I ask them a few questions myself. Which credentials do you most often see in the job postings? When you've had conversations with green job holders or sustainability leaders, have they mentioned any credentials they find valuable? Which credentials do they hold? Examples of green credentials include: Green Building Credentials such as LEED AP or LEED Green Associate, Healthy Building Credentials, Certified Energy Manager Credential, Certified Renewable Energy Professional, GRI Professional Certification Program, SASB Fundamentals of Sustainability Accounting, FSA, Credential, International Society of Sustainability Professionals, ISSB, Sustainability Professional Credential. Depending on the sector you're interested in, there may be other value respected green credentials and certifications. For me, since I serve in real estate, design and construction markets, I hold LEED AP, VAL AP and Vision SP and Green Globes Credentials. Currently I'm working on getting the SASB FSA level one credential for ESG accounting. Credentials are recognized because to gain one, you need to go through a rigorous learning process and pass an exam. They don't necessarily reflect your practical hands-on experience, but they are great to have if your sector respects and desires these credentials for talent. Can you think of any green credentials that are desired in your industry? If you're not so sure, please check out job postings in your sector and look for a pattern for one or more of these credentials.
