Enterprise Agents Need Trusted Data and Scalable Governance

𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐲 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬? We're getting very good at creating agents. Now we need to get just as good at making them work across the enterprise. So what does it take? I’d start with three things: 1️⃣. 𝐆𝐞𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐚 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐲 Agents need more than access to data. They need trusted, real-time enterprise intelligence to understand context and make better decisions. 2️⃣. 𝐏𝐮𝐭 𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤 The value of agents comes from connecting them to the applications, tools and business processes where work actually happens. 3️⃣. 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐧 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐬𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐬, 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐝𝐨𝐳𝐞𝐧𝐬 The runtime that works for a small number of agents wont work as you scale. Governance, observability and orchestration need to be designed for that from the start. This is the shift ahead of us: from creating agents to operating an agentic enterprise. I’ll be digging deeper into how we put all three into practice and what it means for developers building the next generation of enterprise software at #IBMTechXchange, October 26 to 29. Join me in Atlanta. There's a lot more to build. https://lnkd.in/gC6qFCpH

At scale, the most revealing metric is human escalation rate by workflow. If that rate stays flat, orchestration has not matured.

The business processes where work actually happens point is exactly right, and it has a prerequisite that data readiness and governance frameworks alone don’t fully address. Before agents can be connected to the processes where work actually happens, those processes must exist in structured form. The decisions, exceptions, and execution patterns that define how work actually flows across the enterprise almost never do before agents are designed around them. That’s the intelligence gap between what the data says happened and what actually shaped it.

Excited to hear more about this topic at TechXchange!
