Tokens are getting cheaper. But enterprise AI bills may not be. As AI becomes more affordable, usage grows. Reasoning gets deeper. Context expands. And agentic workflows can turn one request into many interactions. So, cost per token only tells part of the story. The more important question is: What value are those tokens creating? That’s what I unpack in this video, and why I believe AI economics needs to move from simply measuring cost per token to understanding value per outcome. Agentic AI gets really interesting when you stop looking at individual functions. For insurance leaders, underwriting, claims, fraud, compliance and customer operations have traditionally been organised as distinct functions, with processes and hand-offs between them. Agentic AI starts to challenge that model. That’s one of the findings that stood out to me in new research from the IBM Institute for Business Value, "The blueprint for agentic operations." Seventy percent of insurance leaders believe AI is already dissolving traditional functional boundaries, and 69% are already executing or scaling interconnected workflows. The potential value is significant. Insurance leaders expect agentic AI to deliver: - 66% improvement in ROI - 57% improvement in query resolution speed - 51% improvement in exception handling But perhaps the bigger question is what this means for how an insurer operates when work can increasingly flow across those traditional boundaries.
