Teen Art Programs

From hands-on art experiences to skill-building and mentorship, MOCA’s programs for teens (13-17) provide an opportunity to create, explore and discover the potential for a life-long passion for the arts.

MOCA Teen Art Force

MOCA Teen Art Force is a one-of-a-kind, free,multidisciplinary art program that provides teens ages 13–17 with a foundationin the arts. Classes include a wide range of art techniques including design,drawing, sculpture, digital art and printmaking. Students also complete serviceprojects, attend trips to art institutions, develop art portfolios, learn aboutthe ins and outs of museums and have the opportunity to showcase their work at MOCA.

Classes are held Monday - Friday from 3 PM - 6 PM.

Monday

Fashion x Textile Design

Gain the experience of a fashion designer by studying fashion trends, sketching your own designs, and creating clothing and accessories for the MOCA shop and showcase.

Tuesday

Portfolio Development

Prepare and acquire basic skills for student or professional portfolios. Enhance existing work or receive help to create work that will help fortify any college or job application. This class includes gestural and figurative drawing, still life painting, and other foundation projects.

Wednesday

Mixed Media

Combine your love for art techniques from collaging, assemblage, hand building with clay, 3D designs, and video art. This course will expand your understanding of multi-disciplinary arts.

Thursday

Digital Art and Photography

Explore the world of digital and printed art.  Learn the fundamentals of photography, animation, design, printmaking, and digital media.

Friday

Museum Experience

Get a behind-the-scenes understanding of the ins and outs of Museums. Participate in fieldtrips to museums and artist studios, learn about curating an exhibition, and engage in professional development opportunities. The year will culminate with the students leading a new exhibition at MOCA of TAF artwork.  You will also have the opportunity to participate in creating the MOCAzine – an annual zine made by and about the life of a Teen Art Force student.

MOCA at the Library

This popular program serves hundreds of students each year with free art classes on Thursdays from 3-4 PM at both North Miami Public Library and Brockway Memorial Library. Guided by a professional artist, teens learn about contemporary art throughengaging classes and hands-on art-making experiences.

North Miami Senior High School Photography Program

In partnership with Guitars Over Guns, MOCA launched a new photography program at North Miami Senior High School that combines mentorship with a strong focus on learning. The program offers students an inspiring and engaging educational experience on Mondays & Wednesdays during the school year.

Junior Docents Program

This unique 4th-5th grade level program allows students toreview training in transferable skills including public speaking,communication, critical thinking, leadership, self esteem and career readiness,using MOCA’s exhibitions as subject matter.
