15. Which is more important, being kind or being honest?

This is tough to answer because I think we should always be honest, however, sometimes being honest is not the kindest thing to do.  So, honest first then be kind.

Happy Festivus 2023

Festivus was conceived by author and editor Daniel O'Keefe, the father of TV writer Dan O'Keefe, and was celebrated by his family as early as 1966. The word Festivus in this sense was coined by the elder O'Keefe, and according to him the name "just popped into my head." In the original O'Keefe tradition, the holiday would take place to celebrate the anniversary of Daniel O'Keefe's first date with his future wife, Deborah. The phrase "a Festivus for the rest of us" originally referred to those remaining after the death of the elder O'Keefe's mother, Jeanette, in 1976; i.e., the "rest of us" are the living, as opposed to the dead.

In 1982, Daniel O'Keefe wrote a book, Stolen Lightning: The Social Theory of Magic, that deals with idiosyncratic ritual and its social significance, a theme relevant to Festivus tradition.

The English word festive derives from Latin "festivus," an adjective meaning "excellent, jovial, lively, which in turn derives from festus "joyous; holiday, feast day."

It is now celebrated on December 23, as depicted in the Seinfeld episode written by the younger O'Keefe.

Happy Labor Day 2022

 Happy Labor Day everyone!
Thank you for your tireless work.
.
"Forty Hour Week " by Alabama

There are people in this country
Who work hard every day
Not for fame or fortune do they strive
But the fruits of their labor
Are worth more than their pay
And it's time a few of them were recognized.

Hello Detroit auto workers,
Let me thank you for your time
You work a forty hour week for a livin',
Just to send it on down the line
Hello Pittsburgh steel mill workers,
Let me thank you for your time
You work a forty hour week for a livin',
Just to send it on down the line.

This is for the one who swings the hammer,
Driving home the nail
Or the one behind the counter,
Ringing up the sale
Or the one who fights the fires,
The one who brings the mail
For everyone who works behind the scenes.

You can see them every morning
In the factories and the fields
In the city streets and the quiet country towns
Working together like spokes inside a wheel
They keep this country turning around.

Hello Kansas wheat field farmer,
Let me thank you for your time
You work a forty hour week for a livin',
Just to send it on down the line
Hello West Virginia coal miner,
Let me thank you for your time
You work a forty hour week for a livin',
Just to send it on down the line.

This is for the one who drives the big rig,
Up and down the road
Or the one out in the warehouse,
Bringing in the load
Or the waitress, the mechanic,
The policeman on patrol
For everyone who works behind the scenes.

With a spirit you can't replace with no machine
Hello America, let me thank you for your time...

Riley And The Seahorse

Today, FedEx delivered a plush seahorse for Riley.
Her daddy was able to get a photo of Riley and the seahorse before Riley had a chance to beat it up.
15ish minutes after this photo, Riley had the squeaker out and some of the stuffing.
So, she and I went outside to play. Well, actually, Riley played and I filmed her....

Stuck In My Head: "Hold on to Memories" by Disturbed

Listen, everyone
The time will come when all of us say goodbye
Feel that aching in your heart
Leaving you broken inside
But we're never really gone
As long as there's a memory in you mind

So now go do the best things in life
Take a bite of this world while you can
Make the most of the rest of your life
Make a ride of this world while you can

Take the ones you love
And hold them close because there is little time
And don't let it break your heart
I know it feels hopeless sometimes
But they're never really gone
As long as there's a memory in you mind

So now go do the best things in life
Take a bite of this world while you can
Make the most of the rest of your life
Make a ride of this world while you can

And hold on to memories
Hold on to every moment
To keep them alive
The world's greatest tragedy
Souls who are not remembered
Cannot survive

So now go do the best things in life
Bring the fight to this world while you can
Make the most of the rest of your life
Shine your light on this world while you can

And hold on to memories
Hold on to every moment
To keep them alive
The world's greatest tragedy
Souls who are not remembered
Cannot survive

And hold on to memories (Hold on)
Hold on to every moment
To keep them alive (Keep them alive)
The world's greatest tragedy (Hold on)
Souls who are not remembered
Cannot survive

Stuck In My Head: "Running Away" by Hoobastank

I don't want you to give it all up
And leave your own life collecting dust
And I don't want you to feel sorry for me
You never gave us a chance to be

And I don't need you to be by my side
And tell me that everything's all right
I just wanted you to tell me the truth
You know I'd do that for you

So why are you running away?
Why are you running away?

I did enough to show you that I
Was willing to give and sacrifice
And I was the one who was lifting you up
When you thought your life had had enough
And when I get close you turn away,
There's nothing that I can do or say
So now I need you to tell me the truth
You know I'd do that for you

So why are you running away?
Why are you running away?

Is it me? Is it you?
Nothing that I can do
To make you…

Stuck In My Head: "Pull Me Under" by Dream Theater

"Pull Me Under"

Lost in the sky
Clouds roll by
And I roll with them
Arrows fly
Seas increase
And then fall again

This world is spinning around me
This world is spinning without me
Every day sends future to past
Every breath leaves me one less
To my last

Watch the sparrow falling
Gives new meaning to it all
If not today nor yet tomorrow
Then some other day

I'll take seven lives for one
And then my only father's son
As sure as I did ever love him
I am not afraid

This world is spinning around me
The whole world keeps
Spinning around me
All life is future to past
Every breath leaves me one less
To my last

Pull me under
Pull me under
Pull me under I'm not afraid
All that I feel is honor and spite
All I can do is set it right

Dust fills my eyes
Clouds roll by
And I roll with them
Centuries cry
Orders fly
And I fall again

This world is spinning inside me
The whole world is
Spinning inside of me
Every day sends future to past
Every step brings me closer
To my last

Pull me under
Pull me under
Pull me under I'm not afraid
Living my life too much in
The sun
Only until your will is done

Rest in Peace Charlie Daniels

Charlie Daniels passed away on July 6, 2020.
The following song is one of my favorites from him.
"The Devil Went Down to Georgia" is a song written and performed by the
Charlie Daniels Band and released on their 1979 album Million Mile Reflections.

The devil went down to Georgia

He was lookin' for a soul to steal
He was in a bind
'Cause he was way behind
And he was willin' to make a deal
When he came upon this young man

Sawin' on a fiddle and playin' it hot
And the devil jumped
Up on a hickory stump
And said, "boy, let me tell you what
I guess you didn't know it

But I'm a fiddle player too
And if you'd care to take a dare, I'll make a bet with you
Now you play a pretty good fiddle, boy

But give the devil his due
I'll bet a fiddle of gold
Against your soul
'Cause I think I'm better than you"
The boy said, "my name's Johnny

And it might be a sin
But I'll take your bet
And you're gonna regret
'Cause I'm the best there's ever been"
Johnny, rosin up your bow and play your fiddle hard

'Cause hell's broke loose in Georgia, and the devil deals the cards
And if you win, you get this shiny fiddle made of gold
But if you lose, the devil gets your soul
The devil opened up his case

And he said, "I'll start this show"
And fire flew from his fingertips
As he rosined up his bow
Then he pulled the bow across the strings

And it made an evil hiss
And a band of demons joined in
And it sounded something like this
When the devil finished

Johnny said, "well, you're pretty good, old son
But sit down in that chair right there
And let me show you how it's done"
He played Fire on the Mountain run boys, run

The devil's in the House of the Rising Sun
Chicken in a bread pan pickin' out dough
Granny, does your dog bite? No child, no
The devil bowed his head

Because he knew that he'd been beat
And he laid that golden fiddle
On the ground at Johnny's feet
Johnny said, "Devil, just come on back

If you ever want to try again
I done told you once you son of a bitch
I'm the best that's ever been"
He played Fire on the Mountain run boys, run

The devil's in the House of the Rising Sun
Chicken in a bread pan pickin' out dough
Granny, does your dog bite? No child, no

Stuck In My Head: "Praise You" by Fatboy Slim

We've come a long, long way together
Through the hard times and the good
I have to celebrate you, baby
I have to praise you like I should

I have to praise you
I have to praise you
I have to praise you
I have to praise you like I should

I have to praise you
I have to praise you
I have to praise you
I have to praise you like I should

We've come a long, long way together
Through the hard times and the good
I have to celebrate you, baby
I have to praise you like I should

We've come a long, long way together
Through the hard times and the good
I have to celebrate you, baby
I have to praise you like I should

I have to praise you
I have to praise you
I have to praise you
I have to praise you
I have to praise you
I have to praise you
I have to praise you
I have to praise you like I should

Stuck In My Head: "Strut" by Sheena Easton

This song has been stuck in my head all week!

He said, "Baby, what's wrong with you?
Why don't you use your imagination?"
(Oh no, oh no)
"Nations go to war over women like you
It's just a form of appreciation"

"Come on over here, lay your clothes on the chair
Now let the lace fall across your shoulder"
(Oh no, oh no)
"Standing in the half-light, you're almost like her
So take it slow like your daddy told ya"

Strut, pout, put it out
That's what you want from women
Come on, baby, whatcha takin' me for?
Strut, pout, cut it out
All takin' and no givin'
Watch me baby, while I walk out the door

I said, "Honey, I don't like this game
You make me feel like a girl for hire"
(Oh no, oh no)
"All this fascination with leather and lace
Is just the smoke from another fire"

He said, "Honey, don't stop a speeding train
Before it reaches it destination"
(Oh no, oh no)
"Lie down here beside me, oh, have some fun too
Don't turn away from your true vocation"

Strut, pout, put it out
That's what you want from women
Come on, baby, whatcha takin' me for?
Strut, pout, cut it out
All takin' and no givin'
Watch me baby, while I walk out the door

I won't be your baby doll
Be your baby doll
I won't be your baby doll
Be your baby doll

Strut, pout, put it out
That's what you want from women
Come on, baby, whatcha takin' me for?
Strut, pout, cut it out
All takin' and no givin'
Watch me baby, while I walk out the door

Strut, pout, put it out
That's what you want from women
Come on, baby, whatcha takin' me for?
Strut, pout, cut it out
All takin' and no givin'
Watch me baby, while I walk out the door
