During the summer of 1990[1], Club Mario replaced the original live-action segments of The Super Mario Bros. Super Show! This series features "extreme" Super Mario-obsessed teenagers messing around, and, in at least one episode, running around the DIC studios and harassing the show's executive producer Andy Heyward. Chris Coombs and Michael Rawlins play the hosts Tommy Treehugger and Co-MC respectively.

Recurring segments[edit]

On the show, there are several recurring segments.

Big Kid Theater[edit]

Big Kid Theater is a show that Tommy Treehugger and Co-MC watch while "satellite surfing." It is hosted by its titular character Big Kid, "the biggest 10-year old," played by Jeff Rose. During the segments, he shows clips of old black-and-white films, including Tarzan the Ape Man and Radar Men from the Moon.

"Are You Bogus?"[edit]

In "Are You Bogus?," Tommy Treehugger and Co-MC would interview someone and ask that person questions to see if they are who they say they are. If the person is fake, he or she would be considered "bogus" by Tommy and Co-MC. Sometimes the fake person would be a cast member such as "The Big Kid," who claimed to be Santa Claus, or a previous guest, the Prince of Cool, who claimed to be Julius Caesar. Occasionally, the "bogus" accusation was unfounded, such as a claimant being Joe Piscopo. When Co-MC and Tommy call him "bogus," they realize too late that the real Joe Piscopo did indeed make an appearance.

Spaced Out Theater[edit]

Spaced Out Theater, also known as Space Scout Theater, is a show that Tommy Treehugger and Co-MC watch while "satellite surfing." It is hosted by Princess Centauri, a green alien woman bookending an edited version of another show called Photon, produced by DIC Entertainment, with all of the copyrighted songs replaced with original music. During the segment, she often makes witty remarks about Bhodi Li and his partners' adventures in attempting to find the titular Photon crystals located on every planet they visit.

Featured clips[edit]

  • "Deadly Thorns" ("Mario's Magic Carpet")
  • "No Laughing Matter" ("Cold Spells")
  • "Space Terror" ("Brooklyn Bound")

"Dr. Know-It-All"[edit]

In "Dr. Know-It-All," Tommy and Co-MC ask a man named Dr. Know-It-All a question, but when he tries to answer, they decide they do not want to hear his answer anymore, usually because his answers are off by miles. Sometimes, Co-MC or Tommy bet Dr. Know-It-All will get a question wrong. Occasionally, Dr. Know-It-All gets a question right, causing an argument between Tommy and Co-MC. Dr. Know-It-All was played by Kurt Weldon, a crew member who wrote several episodes of the Super Mario cartoons, as well as its corresponding show Captain N: The Game Master.

Notes[edit]

  • On streaming releases and the YouTube upload by WildBrain, the Club Mario segment is included for "The Unzappables" instead of its original live-action segment.
