Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze levels

Forest Folly is the fifth level of Donkey Kong Island in Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze and its Nintendo Switch port. Corresponding to the Forest world from Donkey Kong Country Returns, it takes place in the dense forest that is now a snowscape as a result of the Snowmads' invasion of the island.

In Time Attack mode, a time of 2:10.00 is required to get a gold medal, a time of 2:25.00 for silver, and a time of 2:52.00 for bronze.

Overview[edit]

Springs, climbing grass and vines are major gimmicks here. The player must be careful against snowflakes that harm the Kongs and vary in size and orbit throughout the level. Some tiki towers and frozen Skittlers can be seen in the background.

The level starts out in the snowing forest. The Kongs must Hand Slap the springy platform and slide down the curved slope. From there, the Kongs must swing on a vine and use another springy platform with a Pointy Tuck to reach the higher platform with a Tuff Tuck, grabbing the letter K while avoiding the large harmful snowflakes floating in the air. Above the platform with a Kong Barrel and a Pointy Tuck is a climbing grass ceiling which the Kongs can reach with another springy platform. The Kongs must drop down to a bouncy red flower and wait for a moving springy platform. The Kongs must Hand Slap an upside down swinging springy platform with climbing grass make it to the next swinging platform and then repeat the Hand Slap there to reach a vine. The following platform has a Blue Hootz above it, as well as a spinning Banana circle that the player can collect using a springy platform to get a Banana Coin, followed by a checkpoint.

After the checkpoint, the Kongs must drop down to a moving springy platform from some climbing grass and propel themselves to the vine above. Here, the Kongs must swing to another vine while avoiding the large snowflakes falling from above. They must then reach a swinging platform from the vine, with a Hootz between them they can jump off for extra air time. They must Hand Slap to propel themselves over to each of the swinging platforms while avoiding the large snowflakes. Soon the Kongs land on a round cling-able unit that will roll downwards towards the letter O. A large structure will come down from above, and the Kongs will have to jump up from the cling-able unit before it falls away. They must then use a swinging springy platform to reach another vine, reaching the second checkpoint.

Passed the checkpoint is another Kong Barrel, and a platform with a Painguin Tuck. The player can collect the spinning bananas surrounded by large snowflakes above to get a Token. There will be large snowflakes surrounding following the area with two small platforms and vines so the player must move carefully. The next section has a springy platform with a Hot Hootz above it. The Kongs must use the springy platform to reach the bouncy red flower and then Hand Slap off another swinging platform, the following platform tilting to the side upon landing on it. After getting passed a Chum Chucker Charlie, the Kongs must use a vine to get to another swinging platform, with a Hootz right below it they can jump off for a Banana Coin. From there, they must Hand Slap to the next swinging platform below with a Blue Hootz flying around it. With the right timing, the Kongs can propel themselves and grab the letter N and enter the Skull Barrel Cannon. The Kongs must carefully blast themselves from Barrel Cannons when there are no snowflakes blocking them. After the Barrel Cannon segment, the Kongs land on a round cling-able unit and must jump to the climbing grass above. Landing on the following platform with an Archy with cause it to drop a bit. From there, the Kong can jump to the next checkpoint.

The Kongs must get passed a Fish Poker Pops before plucking a handle. This makes the swinging springy platform above drop down so the Kongs can reach it and go through the next swinging platform section. Here, the snowflakes that the player must avoid float around in lines of three. They Kongs jump on a bouncy red flower and land on a platform with a Tuff Tuck, using the springy platform in the center to reach the platform above with a Kong Barrel. From there, the Kongs must jump to a vine and hop across the heads of three Hootzes. Landing on a platform with a Tuff Tuck causes giant snowflakes to come down and destroy the platforms. They player must run passed a Chum Chucker Charlie and hop along a few more smaller platforms, the first one you can roll under to get the letter G, and the second-to-last one before the Skull Barrel Cannon having another Tuff Tuck on it. The Kongs must launch themselves onto the final round cling-able unit, running away from a snowflake floating around it counterclockwise. The Kongs must then reach to Slot Machine Barrel by jumping off the cling-able unit before it falls away, ending the level.

Collectibles[edit]

KONG Letters[edit]

  • K: After the first vine and the first puzzle piece, the player will see it on the top of the screen.
  • O: Located along the round cling-able unit. The player has to try to stay still by moving counter-clockwise along the unit to catch it.
  • N: It is located before the Barrel Cannon part. The player must pound the spring when the N and bananas are aligned.
  • G: It is set under the platform that gets destroyed by the giant snowflake. The Kongs must roll down and jump immediately from the previous platform.

Puzzle Pieces[edit]

  • 1: After the second spring near the K, a yellow plant is seen. The Kongs have to pound in front of it and grab all the bananas before time runs out.
  • 2: Just after the O, a hidden Barrel Cannon can be seen behind the wooden platform. The player must pound the spring when it has moved to the left, then the Barrel Cannon brings the player to the bonus room.
  • 3: The Kongs must grab all the bananas on three vines that are in a row. They must avoid snowflakes and fireball attacks simultaneously.
  • 4: At the Barrel Cannon section, a puzzle piece is moving with snowflakes that orbit from the lower right to the upper left. To catch it, the player should reach the non-moving cannon quickly and wait until the puzzle piece comes.
  • 5: After the final checkpoint, a Fish Poker Pops can be seen. First, the Kongs must defeat him and pound at the front of the bunch of fish. Then they have to grab all the moving bananas and a coin.
