Variant of Galoomba

Parachute Galoombas,[1] originally known as Para-Goombas (alternatively Paragoombas),[2] are Galoombas with parachutes that first appear in Super Mario World. They descend slowly from the sky on parachutes, and once they land, they act like normal Galoombas.

Para-Goombas also make a minor appearance in Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros. 3, where they are found at the end of the World-e level Rich with Ropes.

Parachute Galoombas make a reappearance in Super Mario Maker 2. They can be made only in the Super Mario World style by placing a parachute on a Galoomba. Their descending animation is changed to resemble the Galoombas' swimming animation from the first Super Mario Maker.

Naming

Etymology

The localizations for Super Mario World and Super Mario World: Super Mario Advance 2 referred to Galoombas as "Goombas" and this extended to the Galoomba variants introduced alongside it. This enemy is listed in the ending of Super Mario World and has not been explicitly named in a game or piece of media after the introduction of the distinguishing English name "Galoomba" in Super Mario 3D World, so the majority of its most recent official European names are still derived from the name "Goomba." Similar to the Japanese release of the game, the Simplified Chinese localization of Super Mario World: Super Mario Advance 2 recognizes that they are not true Goombas and refer to this enemy as "空降栗子" (Kōngjiàng Lìzǐ).
