Super Mario Bros. is a one-shot Super Mario-franchise manga written by Yukio Sawada and is based on the eponymous game. It is his first Super Mario-related publication. It appeared in the February 1986 issue of Shōgaku san-nensei「小学三年生」, a Shogakukan publication aimed at third-grade elementary students. Also for Shogakukan, Sawada would go on to create other Super Mario-inspired short stories for the kindergarten-aimed magazine Gakushū Yōchien, while for Tokuma Shoten, which invited him to work at Wanpakku Comic, he would start a full manga series called Super Mario Bros. 2, based on the sequel.
The one-shot was republished in the 40th volume of Super Mario-kun.[1]
